8 Palestinians wounded by Israeli occupation forces' gunfire in Gaza

Eight Palestinians were wounded Sunday morning by Israeli occupation forces' gunfire in the Gaza Strip.Palestinian news agency (WAFA), citing medical sources, reported that six people were shot by occupation forces in the city of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, two others-including a pregnant woman-were wounded by direct fire from occupation vehicles targeting displaced persons' tents near the Al-Shuja'iya junction, east of Gaza City.In a related development, occupation artillery continues to target areas east of Khan Yunis, while occupation forces are carrying out demolition operations east of the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, northeast of Gaza City.Despite the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel entering into force last October, Israeli occupation forces continue to violate it through airstrikes, artillery shelling and heavy gunfire targeting various areas of the Strip.

Every day, Gazan mother Nihaya al-Masri spends six exhausting hours or more queueing at a community kitchen in the hope of getting some food for her family. Hunger and malnutrition stalk Gazans

Every day, Gazan mother Niyaha al-Masri spends six exhausting hours or more queueing at a community kitchen in the hope of getting some food for her family. It has been a year since a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was supposed to allow food to flood into the ruined territory, yet widespread hunger persists there. Al-Masri has little choice. Without the kitchen run by humanitarian groups, she and her eight children would have “nothing at all”, the 35-year-old said. Each day she sets out early in the morning and returns in the afternoon, this time bringing four containers of rice, lentils and a little chicken, which the family throws itself at. Among them is her husband, wounded in both legs by an airstrike, meaning he “cannot go and fight with the others” to get food. This will be the only meal of the day for the family of 10, living in a tent in Khan Yunis. There was no breakfast and they will have no dinner. What little flour they have, al-Masri explained, has to be rationed. In August 2025, a United Nations-backed body, the IPC, declared a state of famine in Gaza, though Israel quickly denounced it as a lie. By December, the UN had lifted that declaration, saying that the ceasefire had allowed in enough supplies over the course of two months to ease conditions. COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry organisation responsible for civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories, told AFP that the humanitarian situation in Gaza was stable. But Shaun Hughes, of the UN’s World Food Programme, was less sanguine.  The food security situation, he said, “is still extremely serious”.  The most recent figures, from July, show that “1.4mn out of the population of about 2.1mn people are acutely food insecure”, he said, with 200,000 of them “just one step below famine”.While some food is getting in, a lack of sufficient nutritional variety continues to pose a health threat. “Dietary diversity is a major food security issue in Gaza,” said Hughes.  “You cannot survive on dry goods and wheat flour and bread alone. Particularly children, particularly pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, they need the micronutrients that come with high protein foods, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits,” he explained.  Al-Masri said that her children, aged between three and 14, “dream of eating fruit” but the family doesn’t have the means to buy any.  She said one of her sons suffered from malnutrition during the 2025 famine, although “little by little, his condition is improving”.  Malnutrition isn’t only caused by a lack of food, but also essential nutrients. It weakens the immune system of children, making them vulnerable to illnesses and stunting their growth.“Repeated bouts of acute malnutrition amongst children is something that human beings just don’t recover from,” said Hughes.  Cognitive and physical impairments “continue into later life”, he added.At Khan Yunis’s Nasser hospital, the head of the malnutrition unit, Israa al-Najjar, told AFP she had “observed an increase in syndromes and conditions” linked to malnutrition that affect the immune system.  Medecins du Monde published a study that found 93% of pregnant or breastfeeding women had symptoms of anaemia, which is closely linked to malnutrition.Just 17% had a sufficiently varied diet to meet their nutritional needs, the group found.  All the while, al-Masri has kept visiting the community kitchen, despite asthma leaving her exhausted. Her children spend their days collecting “pieces of nylon, bits of cardboard and chunks of foam” to try and reinforce their tent, which is in a poor state.  She said it was “shameful” that her children had to do so.  “I swear to God, this isn’t normal.”

Qatar Red Crescent Society distributes 89,000 hot meals to IDPs in Gaza

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is launching a new project to prepare and distribute 88,912 hot meals to displaced families in camps across Gaza, at a total cost of $489,016.Dr Akram Nassar, head of QRCS’ representation office in Gaza, said: “The ultimate goal of all our relief projects in Gaza is to actively help alleviate the impact of the worsening humanitarian disaster, notably the severe food crisis”.  He highlighted QRCS’ commitment to delivering hot meals directly where they are needed most, to ensure better food security and humanitarian conditions for the population. Asaad, a beneficiary of the project, stood outside his tent at a camp of internally displaced people (IDPs) in central Gaza City, gazing at the pale faces of his children, as they gathered around a hot meal that they had for months been desperate for.As the head of a family of eleven, mostly children, the father described the camp’s living conditions as “totally catastrophic”. He said his children had not eaten rice or chicken since last Ramadan because of food shortages and skyrocketing prices in Gaza’s markets.  With a look of relief, the 43-year-old added, “This hot meal will meet my family’s minimum needs, at a time when we cannot even secure our day-to-day sustenance. It will save my children from the bitter hunger that we feel every single day at the IDP camp”.  Asaad’s story is one of many stories of suffering lived by thousands of families under blockade.  Amid a serious humanitarian crisis affecting two million people in Gaza, QRCS stands out as one of the biggest humanitarian service providers, working hard to bridge critical gaps in health care, food, shelter, water and sanitation, livelihoods, and other essential needs.  Focusing on food security, QRCS is determined to continue supporting that vital sector by restoring and operating bakeries, distributing food parcels and ready-to-eat meals, and providing therapeutic nutrition for malnourished children.  The total cost required to implement these interventions exceeds QR 16.5mn. Donors can make these plans a reality by paying their Zakat and charities via QRCS’s website (www.qrcs.org.qa), mobile app (QRCS), donor service hotline (66666364), home donation collection hotline (33998898), or donation collection desks/agents at malls and shopping centres.

Palestinian martyred, several injured in Israeli attacks in Gaza City, Khan Yunis

A Palestinian was martyred and several others were injured on Tuesday in Israeli attacks in Gaza City and Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.According to WAFA News Agency, one Palestinian was martyred and another injured in an Israeli drone strike near the Municipality Park in central Gaza City.Several others were injured after a bicycle was targeted on Al-Wahda Street, west of the city.Meanwhile, a Palestinian was wounded by Israeli gunfire in the Al-Karama neighborhood, northwest of Gaza City, while another was injured by fire from Israeli military vehicles near Al-Mawasi in Khan Yunis.On the other hand, Israeli artillery renewed its shelling of areas east of Gaza City, as demolition of remaining homes continued near the Al-Shujaiya junction and in the eastern parts of the Al-Tuffah neighborhood.A ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect last October. However, the Israeli occupation forces have continued to violate the truce with airstrikes, artillery shelling and heavy gunfire across the Gaza Strip.

UN Secretary-General calls for permanent ceasefire in Gaza Strip

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and for ensuring the large-scale, unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid.In a press statement on Monday evening, Guterres emphasized that ongoing hostilities have inflicted unspeakable suffering on Palestinians in the Strip. He stressed that civilians are living in harsh, unbearable conditions and that their suffering must end immediately.The Secretary-General pointed out that the ceasefire which began in October 2025 helped alleviate some of the suffering but has not yet provided security, adequate humanitarian aid, or a credible path toward recovery and peace.Citing data from UN agencies, he noted that Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of more than 74,000 people-including 20,000 children-and the injury of over 100,000 others. Meanwhile, the entire population of the Strip, numbering approximately 2.1 million, has been displaced, and vast areas have been destroyed.He urged all parties to fully implement their obligations and to move to the next phase of the ceasefire, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803."It is time for the ceasefire to become permanent. It is time to allow humanitarian assistance at scale. And it is time to respect international law,” he said.He said that there is a need to build the political path to lasting peace across the whole region, adding that the United Nations remains unwavering in its commitment to these imperatives.
