The US Chamber of Commerce is bullish on US-Qatar commercial relationship reaching new heights.Khush Choksy, Senior Vice-President of the Chamber for Middle East, Central Asia and Türkiye, was in Qatar recently and held several meetings with key stakeholders in the public and private sectors, including the Minister of Finance, the Minister of ICT, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, the CEO of the Qatar Financial Center, and leadership of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and the USQBC Doha. He said that in the energy, tech, financial, health care, transport, and tourism sectors significant growth will take place with US businesses actively engaged.The US Chamber continues to highlight Qatar’s role as a hub for American investment in energy and technology. He emphasised that LNG expansion remains a major draw, with US firms closely watching opportunities in the North Field.“They’re all very interested in the expansion of the North Field. That’s going to be very big,” Choksy pointed out.On the technology side, the US Chamber’s affiliates in the region (AmCham MENA) participated in the recently concluded Web Summit Qatar to connect American companies with Qatari counterparts. Choksy said the event showcased the scale of US participation, with many American company booths drawing large crowds.Choksy praised Qatar’s low-cost energy, fibre connectivity, and policy frameworks, saying these have created a strong platform for US tech firms. Choksy pointed to the technology framework introduced several years ago as a turning point: “You have the energy, low-cost energy. You have the nodes and the fiber coming in. But most importantly...the whole ICT framework that Qatar put in place.”He also hailed Qatar’s ability to leverage sports infrastructure for broader economic growth. “Following the 2022 FIFA World Cup, visitor numbers surged from 2.7mn in 2022 to 6mn in 2025. They’ve really leveraged upon the World Cup and the presence and the infrastructure to grow,” Choksy stressed.Beyond energy and technology, Choksy emphasised that critical minerals are becoming a new area of cooperation, citing Qatar as the eighth Pax Silica signatory. He also said the US Chamber is strengthening institutional linkages in Doha, citing the US-Qatar Business Council Doha (USQBC Doha) as its formal partner.“Additionally we are really looking at third-country co-operation with the US, Qatar, and Syria, and we hope to organise a dedicated session on this during the upcoming Qatar Economic Forum,” Choksy told *Gulf Times.Choksy noted that partnerships are already emerging, adding: “We think that there’s a perfect match between American companies, large Qatari private sector enterprises, and Syrian businesses.”

A bogey-free third round at the Qatar Masters Saturday saw American Patrick Reed open up a two-shot lead heading into the final round, keeping himself firmly in contention for a second victory in three weeks.Reed sits at 14-under-par after carding a two-under 70 at Doha Golf Club. Denmark’s Jacob Olesen is his closest challenger on 12 under, having produced the standout round of the day among the pursuers. Olesen fired a four-under 68, highlighted by a blistering back nine that featured five birdies.“I felt like I hit the ball better today than I did the last two days – well, really compared to Saturday, and shot two shots worse, so it’s an interesting game,” Reed said.“The golf game feels good, it feels solid, it feels steady and really just got to go out there and keep the foot on the gas tomorrow, get off to hopefully a faster start than today, and see where it goes.”Reed’s birdies at the second and the par-five tenth were backed up by 16 pars in a solid round despite a three-putt from just under 100 feet at the last hole after finding the green in two.“It’s one of those days you’ve got to take advantage of the par-fives, I didn’t really do that very well today. A three-putt on the last obviously stings but to go round this place bogey-free, especially with how the wind was, it’s obviously successful,” the 2018 Masters champion said.Reed won the Dubai Desert Classic last month and then lost in play-off at Bahrain Championship last week as Germany’s Freddy Schott claimed a maiden victory. The American, now playing regularly on the European-based circuit after leaving LIV Golf with a return to the PGA Tour not possible until August.“Hopefully we can continue to do that tomorrow, continue hitting the ball solid and giving ourselves a lot of birdie looks, and hopefully make a couple more than just two tomorrow,” the 35-year-old said.Reed's playing partner Joakim Lagergren slipped off the pace slightly with a one-over par 73 seeing him fall back to 10-under. Bogeys for Lagergren at the 11th, 14th and 16th left him four off the pace going, meaning Olesen will play with Reed in today’s final group.The left-hander Olesen was one over for his front nine but five birdies coming home, including three in the last four holes, put him in contention for his maiden DP World Tour win.“It was a grind on the front nine, couldn't really get anything going, didn't hit any good shots at all either,” said Olesen.“I hit a good wedge in on ten after a poor drive. It's not really the pin position where you want to be stuck with a wedge out the first cut, but hit a good one in there and rolled one in. That got me back to level and I kind of knew it wasn't playing that easy so I knew I wasn't in a terrible spot, just needed to get something going,” the Dane said.Australia’s Daniel Hillier and Spain’s Angel Ayora are joint third on 11 under, while Scotland's Calum Hill - the third member of last week's play-off in Bahrain with Reed and Schott - and England's Daniel Bradbury are in a six-way tie for ninth on nine under.Sebastian Soderberg from Sweden, posted the best round of the day - a seven-under 65 that included an eagle two at the 10th to reach nine under. Alongside them on that total were Dan Bradbury, Kazuma Kobori and Johannes Veerman.Padraig Harrington carded a one-under par 71 to sit on four-under overall in tied-34th. The Dubliner, who is making his 500th start on the tour, recorded birdies on the first, sixth, 10th and 14th holes with dropped strokes on the eighth, 13th, and the par-5 18th.

Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD) will once again serve as a central destination for Qatar National Sport Day (QNSD) on February 10, hosting an extensive programme of sports, fitness, and wellness activities across its pedestrian network and public spaces. The city will activate multiple zones starting from 8am, offering diverse experiences for families, youth, and visitors of all fitness levels. As Qatar’s leading smart and walkable city district, MDD is strategically positioned to deliver comprehensive Sport Day programming through its connected pedestrian network, diverse public spaces, hospitality cluster, and retail ecosystem. Last year’s QNSD attracted 70,000 visitors to MDD, demonstrating strong community engagement and sustained on-ground participation. Building on this success, this year’s programme expands both the scale and diversity of activities available to participants. The 2026 Sport Day activations will span key locations including Barahat Msheireb, Sikkat Wadi Msheireb, Sahat Wadi Msheireb, and Sahat Al Nakheel. Activities will include sports and fitness zones, gamified challenges, circuits and activities for all ages, mini sports for children, movement and recovery stations, nutrition booths, and community health activations. Vodafone Qatar will activate Barahat Msheireb with its Sports Village, offering a curated selection of sports-related activities. The Al Emadi Group will create an activation zone at Sahat Al Nakheel, featuring sport challenges designed for all ages and fitness levels. The day of wellness continues into the evening with the wellness club’s Grand Launch at 6:30pm, welcoming the community to discover the club’s state-of-the-art facilities and experience its distinctive second-space concept, designed to flawlessly combine activity, relaxation, and connection. Msheireb Properties will operate multiple activation zones across the city, beginning with a dedicated area at Sahat Wadi Msheireb from 7am exclusively for employees and their families, before opening to the public from 9am. Additional zones will be activated at Sikkat Wadi Msheireb, offering gamified sports experiences and activities accessible to participants across all skill levels. Dr Hafiz Ali Abdulla, senior director of Corporate Communication at Msheireb Properties, said: “Qatar National Sport Day represents an important opportunity to showcase how Msheireb Downtown Doha serves as more than a destination — it functions as an active platform for community engagement and national initiatives.” The event emphasises MDD’s role as a destination that supports Qatar National Vision 2030’s health and wellness objectives. The city’s shaded walkways and interconnected public spaces enable safe, accessible participation in physical activities for residents and visitors. All activities are free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to arrive early and explore the various zones across MDD throughout the day.
