Backed by its economic size and broad industrial and technological base, “India represents a strategic market for Qatari investors,” stated Nirmala Sitharaman, the South Asian nation’s Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs.“In turn, the State of Qatar offers an advanced investment environment, a strategic location, and world-class infrastructure that Indian companies can use to reach the Gulf and regional markets,” the minister said during a luncheon hosted by the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) Tuesday in Doha.The minister and QBA officials also discussed ways to strengthen economic and investment relations between Qatar and India, and to broaden cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.It also explored investment opportunities and promising sectors that could become areas of partnership and cooperation in the coming years.The meeting addressed the development of economic relations between Qatar and India, ways to increase and diversify bilateral trade, and the promotion of mutual investment.It also encouraged Qatari and Indian companies to establish partnerships and joint ventures that make use of the considerable economic and investment potential of both countries.QBA board members Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani and Sherida Saad al-Kaabi attended the meeting, alongside QBA members Sheikh Mohammed bin Faisal al-Thani, Sheikh Mansour bin Jassim al-Thani, Ibrahim al-Muftah, Yousuf Ebrahim al-Mahmoud, Dr Jaffar Ali al-Sarraf, Dr Mohamed Altaf, and QBA general manager Sarah Abdallah.Sitharaman and her delegation outlined developments in the Indian economy and the opportunities available to investors. The discussions explored ways to facilitate cooperation between institutions and companies and to encourage investment and trade flows between the two sides.Sheikh Nawaf affirmed that Qatari-Indian relations are gaining momentum, supported by strong strategic ties and mutual economic and commercial interests. He noted that the coming period offers important opportunities for the private sector to play a greater role in developing these relations and turning them into long-term investments and projects.He added: “Qatar and India share well-established economic relations, but we believe there is still greater potential that the private sectors of both countries can tap into. We look forward to moving from traditional trade relations to long-term investment partnerships based on joint ventures and the transfer of technology and knowledge, creating added value for both economies.”The meeting highlighted a number of sectors that could serve as key pillars for future cooperation between Qatari and Indian companies. Among them were technology, the digital economy and artificial intelligence, advanced industries, financial services and fintech, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, transport and logistics, food security and food industries, renewable energy, infrastructure, and tourism and hospitality.Financial and banking services and fintech were a major focus of the discussions. The two sides explored opportunities to strengthen communication between financial institutions and investors in both countries and to develop financing and investment mechanisms that support joint projects and help companies expand into regional and international markets.The two sides also discussed opportunities for cooperation in transport, logistics, and supply chains, drawing on Qatar’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure and on India’s industrial and commercial capabilities, to boost trade and connect Gulf markets with Indian and Asian markets.The QBA affirmed its commitment to continued engagement with the Indian business community and to building direct partnerships between companies in both countries. It also expressed its intention to build on the current momentum in bilateral relations to increase investment and trade and to develop joint projects in priority sectors, serving the shared economic interests of Qatar and India.

Qatar and Finland are targeting expanded private sector partnerships, identifying technology, artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, and education as primary engines for bilateral commercial trade. During a meeting at Qatar Chamber, Qatari business leaders and a visiting Finnish delegation led by Under-Secretary of State and Deputy Minister for International Trade Jarno Syrjala outlined targeted areas for joint ventures and cross-border investment. The two sides explored opportunities for cooperation and partnership between Qatari and Finnish companies across a range of sectors, including investment, trade, manufacturing, security technology, and other areas of mutual interest. The meeting was attended by Qatar Chamber board members Abdulrahman bin Abduljaleel al-Abdulghani, Ali bin Abdul Latif al-Misnad, Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, and Abdullah al-Emadi, along with acting general manager Ali Bu Sherbak al-Mansouri. Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani called on both business communities to expand trade links and pursue joint projects across advanced industries, healthcare, food security, logistics, and financial services. Sheikh Khalifa noted that Qatari investors are showing increased interest in Finnish commercial opportunities, pointing to existing Finnish investments in Qatar across tech, aviation, digitalisation, and education. Syrjala highlighted that Qatar National Vision 2030 aligns with Finnish capabilities in smart infrastructure, green transition, and advanced industrial solutions. He added that digitalisation, energy transition, and skills development offer immediate pathways for bilateral collaboration. He said there was considerable potential to align Qatar’s development priorities with Finnish expertise, creating practical solutions and partnerships that would benefit both countries. Syrjala further underscored Finland’s commitment to reliability, transparency, long-term partnerships and fulfilling its obligations. He expressed hope that the meeting would deepen ties between the two business communities and lead to new partnerships, investments and opportunities. The Finnish delegation comprised major Finnish companies operating in the fields of defence technology, civil defence, and satellite and space technologies, including ReOrbit, Patria, Nokia, Temet, Verona Shelters, the state-owned Finnish Industrial Investment Company (Tesi), and the Finnish National Agency for Education. Finnish ambassador Juha Mustonen noted that the participating companies are seeking long-term commercial ties and industrial co-operation with Qatari entities.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani Tuesday held separate telephone conversations with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, discussing bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.During a phone call HH the Amir received from the Saudi crown prince, the two leaders discussed the fraternal relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia and ways to enhance co-operation in various fields.**media[497593]**They also exchanged views on developments in the region and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and establishing security and stability.In a separate telephone conversation initiated by King Willem-Alexander, HH the Amir discussed relations between Qatar and The Netherlands and ways to further expand cooperation across various sectors in the shared interests of the two countries and their peoples.**media[497596]**The two leaders also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, with particular focus on diplomatic efforts to contain tensions and maintain the security of maritime routes and freedom of navigation.

 Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur met with His Excellency Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Somalia Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Nuaimi.During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi discussed GCC-European relations in New York with European Union Special Representative for the Gulf region Luigi Di Maio, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.During the meeting, the two sides discussed several issues of mutual interest, including the latest preparations for the second summit between the leaders of the GCC states and the leaders of the European Union, scheduled to be held next month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.They also discussed related matters, progress in implementing the outcomes of the first GCC-EU summit, and the mechanisms for carrying them out in a way that strengthens the strategic relationship between the GCC and the European Union.The two sides also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments. 

The Vietnamese embassy in Doha Monday marked Vietnam’s 81st Independence Day at a reception hosted by its ambassador, Nguyen Huy Hiep. The event was attended by His Excellency Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh al-Marri, Minister of Labour; His Excellency ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo, director of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a number of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, among other guests. Nguyen highlighted the already strong and friendly Qatar-Vietnam relations, noting that over the past years such relations have steadily grown stronger and much deeper in all areas. “Vietnam and Qatar established diplomatic relations in 1993. Over more than three decades, the bilateral relationship has continued to develop positively across a wide range of areas, founded on trust, mutual respect and mutual benefit. “Both sides have established co-operation mechanisms, including the Joint Committee and Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, providing an important foundation for sustaining exchanges and fostering bilateral ties.**media[494450]**“In particular, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Qatar in October 2024 provided significant momentum and opened a new chapter of co-operation, especially in the economic, trade, investment and energy sectors,” the envoy said, addressing the ceremony. He said: “In 2025, bilateral trade turnover reached $700mn, with Vietnam’s primary exports to Qatar including machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; iron and steel products; vessels; computers, electronic products and components, and seafood; while our main imports from Qatar included gas, plastics, other base metals and chemicals.” However, he admitted that “the current volume of trade remains modest compared to our potential and complementarities of our two economies. There is therefore considerable scope to expand market access, diversify the range of traded goods and increase bilateral trade value in the years ahead.” Nguyen pointed out that “according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar currently has one direct investment project in Vietnam within the processing and manufacturing sector, with a total registered capital of $3.23mn. In addition, according to Qatar sources, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has invested approximately $500mn indirectly in a number of real estate and industrial projects in Vietnam through development banks and third-party investment funds.” During an official visit to Qatar in October 2024, Nguyen said the Vietnamese Prime Minister encouraged QIA to increase its investment in Vietnam, particularly in strategic sectors, paving the way for more substantive and effective bilateral investment ties in the period ahead. He stressed that Vietnam strongly welcomes Qatari investment in all fields as the country opens more to the private sector, where Qataris can invest and establish long-term operations in Vietnam, while encouraging Vietnamese businesses to expand their presence in Qatar. Regarding the recent regional situation, the envoy said: “We are facing a number of serious security challenges and unpredictable developments as the continuing conflict has further heightened tensions and expanded to involve multiple countries in the region, with serious repercussions for global energy security and the international economy.” He stressed that: “Vietnam condemns the use of force in violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States. Vietnam supports the approach of maintaining dialogue and resolving conflicts through peaceful means, as is currently being pursued by Qatar. “ Further, Nguyen said: “Vietnam highly appreciates the diplomatic efforts of all countries in the region and the international community, particularly Qatar’s active role as a mediator in de-escalating tensions and working towards a sustainable solution for regional peace and stability.” Accordingly, he wished both countries and their peoples continued peace and prosperity as their mutual excellent relations grow deeper over the years. 

The Qatar-Sri Lanka Joint Committee on Labour held its regular meeting in Doha Monday. The meeting was co-chaired by Her Excellency Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman al-Thani and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment of Sri Lanka Arun Hemachandra. The meeting addressed the latest developments in bilateral relations in the labour sector and related matters, with particular focus on strengthening cooperation in regulating the recruitment of workers. The two sides also discussed increasing reliance on qualified and trained workers to meet the needs of Qatar’s labour market, in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. Both sides voiced their appreciation for the strong relations between Qatar and Sri Lanka, underscoring the importance of continuing the Joint Committee’s meetings to further strengthen the strategic partnership and bilateral relations between the two countries in the labour sector, while supporting closer cooperation in the period ahead.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan al-Thani met French Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Catherine Vautrin and her accompanying delegation during her visit to Qatar. They discussed issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation. Senior officers and officials from both sides attended.  

His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi received Wednesday a copy of the credentials of the ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to the State of Qatar, Yakup Caymazoglu. HE al-Muraikhi wished the ambassador success in his duties, emphasising utmost support to enhance bilateral relations and foster closer co-operation in various fields.
