The State of Qatar has welcomed the bans by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Kingdom of Belgium on Israeli settlement products. It considered the move a crucial step that supports efforts aimed at deterring the occupation's settlement policies, which flagrantly violate the resolutions of international legitimacy, particularly Security Council Resolution 2334, and represent an egregious encroachment upon the rights of the Palestinian people. In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the State of Qatar hopes that more countries will take similar steps in this context and stressed the importance of the international community undertaking its legal and moral responsibilities to compel Israel to halt its settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories. The ministry reiterated the State of Qatar's iron-clad and enduring position in support of the Palestinian cause and the brotherly Palestinian people, based on the resolutions of international legitimacy and the two-state solution to ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

A 17-year-old Palestinian footballer died Saturday a week after he was shot and injured during an attack by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to officials and relatives.Dozens of mourners dressed in black carried the body of Fadi Hamdallah al-Nassan — a player for Al-Mughayyir Club and a member of the Palestinian national youth team — from the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah to his village for burial.The Palestine Football Association accused Israeli forces of shooting Nassan while settlers were attacking the village on July 11.The young player was reportedly shot in the thigh during the attack. His leg was amputated, but he later died from his injuries, the association said.The Israeli military did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment Saturday."He loved football," his father, Hamdallah al-Nassan, told AFP."When the settlers attacked, he heard the screams of the girls and women," he said. "He went to the scene of the attack and was killed."The Palestinian official news agency Wafa also reported details of the incident in which Nasser was wounded and the amputation of his leg, adding that two other residents were hit by rubber bullets fired by Israeli forces, and 10-year-old boy was also hit on the head by a stun grenade.Since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, the UN has reported a sharp increase in violence attributed to Israeli settlers in the West Bank.Israeli soldiers or settlers have killed at least 1,088 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 2023, including both militants and civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Palestinian health ministry data.Official Israeli figures show that at least 46 Israelis, both soldiers and civilians, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations in the West Bank since the start of the Gaza war.

Palestinian Mohammad Salameh was building a home for his family ‌in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where his recently engaged son was meant to start ​married life. Instead, before construction ‌was complete, a group of Israeli settlers seized the property.Video filmed earlier ‌in the week and ⁠verified by Reuters showed ‌at least six settlers moving around ‌on the roof of the two-storey house, which sits below a nearby hill.Salameh said appeals to ⁠the Israeli military and police brought no help. Now he fears his home, which like many others in the Palestinian territory is surrounded by Israeli settlements and smaller outposts, is lost forever. Other houses in the area could suffer the same fate, he said.**media[464344]**"Only God knows, if there is law and order then they will leave," Salameh said. "If they succeeded with taking one, then the rest will follow." Reuters was unable to reach the ​settlers for comment. One of them could be seen walking on the house's roof on Thursday.The Israeli military said it was checking Reuters' request for comment but had not responded by Friday. The ‌Israeli police did not immediately respond to ⁠a request for ​comment.The seizure of Palestinian land by ​settlers is a longstanding feature of life in the West Bank, where about 500,000 Israelis live among roughly 3 mn Palestinians. Palestinians have for years reported damage to farmland, vandalism and attacks linked to settlement expansion. A UN inquiry reported last month that Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian villages and agricultural land had surged since 2023, rising by 130%. Residents of Jalud, Salameh's village, say this week's incident marks another troubling escalation because the settlers seized a house that was still under construction. "They have now moved down to within no more than 100 meters from the last house in Jalud, which is also a ‌house under construction belonging to a ‌resident," said Raed al-Haj Mohammad, head of ⁠the village council.Jalud has faced five major settler attacks, he said, including the burning of ⁠homes, damage to vehicles and the uprooting ⁠of trees. Most countries and the UN regard Israeli settlements in the West Bank as illegal under international law, citing the Fourth Geneva Convention's prohibition on transferring a civilian population into occupied territory. Israel rejects that position, saying the West Bank is disputed territory where there has been a Jewish presence for thousands of years. Palestinians consider the West Bank, together with Gaza and East Jerusalem, ​as part of a Palestinian state. Settlement building and settler violence have long been among the biggest obstacles to peace efforts between Israel and the Palestinians. Even Israel's staunchest allies, including the US, have condemned settler actions. Nevertheless, settlement expansion has accelerated under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, which relies on hardline pro-settlement parties to maintain its parliamentary majority. For Salameh, the dispute is painfully personal. Construction on the house stalled after the Gaza war erupted in 2023, when his son could not find work and the family's finances came under strain."The neighbour close by has ‌built a two-story house, ​which they will probably take too, if we lose this house (his) they will lose theirs," he said. 

The United Kingdom, Canada, France, Norway, New Zealand, and Australia announced coordinated sanctions against Israeli individuals and organizations accused of financing, supporting, and carrying out settler violence in the occupied West Bank. In a joint statement, the countries said the measures aim to hold extremist settlers accountable for violence against Palestinian civilians and urged the Israeli government to ensure meaningful accountability. They also warned of further action if urgent steps are not taken to address the situation. Separately, the United Kingdom called on British companies to end activities linked to Israeli settlements, while France announced entry bans on Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, several settlement leaders, and a number of settlers, reaffirming its support for a two-state solution. The move comes amid growing international concern over escalating settler violence and its impact on prospects for a future Palestinian state.

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani met Sunday with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty.They discussed co-operation between the two countries, along with ways to support and strengthen it. Also discussed were mediation efforts between the US and Iran, in addition to the developments in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and the occupied Palestinian territories.The meeting also addressed coordinating efforts to support mediation aimed at reducing escalation, which contributes to strengthening security and stability in the region.The prime minister voiced the need for all parties to respond to the ongoing mediation efforts, which would open the way for addressing the root causes of the crisis through peaceful means and dialogue, and lead to reaching a sustainable agreement that prevents renewed escalation. 

The State of Qatar affirmed that recognition of the Nakba is an indispensable foundation for any just, comprehensive, and lasting peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue. This was stated in Qatar's statement delivered by Her Excellency Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, during the special meeting of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba at the UN headquarters in New York. Her Excellency emphasized the importance of adopting General Assembly Resolution 79/82, noting that Qatar takes pride in being among the sponsors of this resolution, as recognition of the Nakba is essential for achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. She reaffirmed Qatar's commitment that the names of all Palestinian child martyrs will not be forgotten, describing them as victims of a continuing Nakba, whose suffering cannot be ignored by the international community. In this context, she highlighted Qatar's consistent positions regarding the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, renewing Qatar's condemnation of Israel's illegal decisions concerning the West Bank, including reclassifying Palestinian land as so-called "state land" of Israel, accelerating settlement activity, enacting a law allowing the death penalty in the West Bank, and restricting freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in occupied Jerusalem. Regarding the Gaza Strip, Her Excellency stressed Qatar's insistence on full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, opening crossings to ensure sustainable and unobstructed humanitarian aid, reaffirming Qatar's firm commitment to the peace council from the first day of mediation efforts until the signing of the Sharm El Sheikh agreement with partners, and highlighting the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803. HE the Permanent Representative reiterated Qatar's principled and steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people, based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution. She emphasized the need to guarantee Palestinian self-determination, establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, end occupation and settlement activities, halt Israel's illegal practices in occupied territories, and ensure the right of return for Palestinian refugees in accordance with international law. Her Excellency also stressed Qatar's ongoing commitment to politically, diplomatically, and financially support UNRWA in fulfilling its mandate to serve the Palestinian people, in line with General Assembly Resolution 302 (IV).

The Qatar Press Centre (QPC) has reaffirmed its support for Palestinian media, calling for urgent international and regional action to protect Palestinian journalists and ensure their safety amid ongoing violations. In a statement marking the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists, observed annually on May 11, the QPC stressed the importance of standing in solidarity with Palestinian journalists who continue to report the truth despite direct targeting, persecution, restrictions and the destruction of media institutions. The QPC said the escalating violations against Palestinian journalists and media organisations represent a grave breach of international laws and conventions related to press freedom and human rights. It noted that the Palestinian territories have become among the world’s most dangerous areas for journalists because of systematic attacks on media professionals. The Qatar Press Centre urged the international community, as well as media and human rights organisations, to fulfil their legal and moral responsibilities by taking immediate action to stop violations against Palestinian journalists and uphold press freedom in line with international humanitarian conventions, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Conventions and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The QPC stressed that a free and professional press remains essential in uncovering the truth, defending people’s rights, and objectively and professionally conveying civilians’ suffering to the world. The centre also renewed its call for the immediate release of journalist Mohammed Arab and all detained journalists, stressing the need to end arbitrary arrests and ensure protection for media professionals. According to the QPC, 262 journalists, including 38 women, have been killed during the Israeli war on Gaza, while 45 journalists, including 22 women, remain detained by Israeli occupation authorities. It described these actions as blatant violations of international laws that guarantee press freedom and protect journalists carrying out their professional duties. The QPC further called for serious and effective international pressure to halt the crimes in Gaza and provide urgent protection for journalists and media workers so they can carry out their humanitarian and professional responsibilities safely and freely. 

His Excellency Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani participated Saturday in a meeting of the ministerial committee tasked by the joint extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit to address developments in the Gaza Strip. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum.During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.The prime minister reiterated Qatar's firm and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the brotherly Palestinian people, based on international law and the two-state solution, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. 

Israeli forces fired tear gas at Palestinian schoolchildren staging a sit-in Monday in the occupied West Bank, AFP footage showed, after settlers blocked access to their school. The Israeli military confirmed to AFP it had dispersed an “unusual gathering”, but did not specify whether its troops had fired tear gas at the children on the first day of class since the start of the Iran war. The incident took place at Umm al-Khair, a small village in the southern West Bank region of Masafer Yatta. Schoolchildren there had been due back in class on Monday for the first time in more than 40 days, after lessons were suspended following the outbreak of the Middle East war on February 28. A group of schoolchildren and Palestinian residents had gathered near a barbed wire fence erected by Israeli settlers, which blocked access to the school, an AFP journalist reported. Schoolchildren and some local adults were holding an open-air class as a sit-in to demand access when troops fired the tear gas, witnesses said. “We were sitting and they threw a grenade (tear gas canister) at us. I got scared and started screaming and ran away,” 12-year-old Sarah al-Hathaleen told AFP. “I started crying. A woman hugged me and stayed with me. We were very scared.” Bassam Jabr, director of education for the Masafer Yatta area, confirmed the children were staging a sit-in at the time of the incident. “Settlers are trying to tighten the noose on us in every way. One of these methods is cutting off the road for school students and expanding the settlement,” Jabr said of settlers from the nearby Carmel settlement whose residents erected the fence. “Sadly, there are no solutions. We will continue this sit-in today and tomorrow until we find a solution so the students can return to their schools,” he said. Israel’s military said troops had been dispatched to the area. “IDF soldiers were dispatched ot the area of Umm al-Khair due to reports of an unusual gathering of Palestinians in the area,” the military told AFP. “The gathering was dispersed and no injuries were reported,” it said, without specifying whether tear gas had been fired. AFP footage showed canisters being fired, with children screaming and fleeing. “Last night we were excited for school today. The Israelis came and closed the road with barbed wire... we want to be back in school,” said 11-year-old Rashid al-Hathaleen. 

The Arab Parliament announced Sunday that it launched a broad international campaign across parliamentary, human rights, and international levels to confront the so-called execution law for Palestinian prisoners approved by Israel’s Knesset.In a statement, the Arab Parliament stressed that the discriminatory legislation represents one of the most dangerous forms of legitimising systematic political killing against the Palestinian people, describing it as a fully-fledged legislative crime that undermines international law and threatens the global justice system.Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed al-Yamahi sent a series of urgent official letters to UN Secretary-General, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as heads of regional and international parliaments, calling for immediate and decisive action to halt the implementation of the law and hold those responsible accountable before international justice.Al-Yamahi stressed in his letters that the adoption of this law constitutes an unprecedented escalation in Israeli occupation policies, effectively institutionalising a new phase of systematic executions of Palestinian prisoners under a false legislative cover.He described it as a blatant violation of Geneva Conventions, international humanitarian law, and all relevant international human rights instruments, warning that any international silence or inaction regarding this law would be considered direct complicity in a fully-fledged crime, would grant the occupying entity political cover to continue its crimes, and would open the door to a serious collapse in the international legitimacy system and entrench a policy of impunity.He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take urgent measures, including activating international accountability mechanisms, referring the crime to competent judicial bodies, ensuring immediate international protection for Palestinian prisoners, and forming independent fact-finding committees to investigate serious violations committed against them in Israeli occupation prisons.He also renewed calls to suspend and freeze the membership of Israeli Knesset in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other international parliamentary forums, affirming that the Arab Parliament It will continue its political, diplomatic, and parliamentary efforts until the discriminatory law is repealed and the occupying authorities are held accountable for their escalating crimes against Palestinian prisoners.  

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said that the Israeli occupation forces carried out 53 violations against Palestinian journalists during the month of March.The syndicate explained in its monthly report that March witnessed the assassination of two journalists, warning of the dangerous and systematic escalation in the Israeli occupation forces’ targeting of Palestinian journalists.The syndicate stressed that these violations constitute part of an organized policy to silence Palestinian voices and undermine press freedom. Targeting journalists, including killing, arresting, and physical assault, falls within an escalating pattern of serious violations that rise to the level of serious crimes, and reflects the occupation authorities’ insistence on preventing independent media coverage, especially in light of the escalation of crimes and violations against Palestinian civilians.
