Brewers edge Dodgers 2-1 in National League Championship Series opener

Brice Turang homered and Milwaukee's bullpen kept the Los Angeles Dodgers' potent bats in check on Sunday as the Brewers triumphed 2-1 in game one of baseball's National League Championship Series. One year after they were unceremoniously swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS, the Brewers thrilled fans in Milwaukee, landing the first blow in the best-of-seven series that will send the winner to the World Series. The Dodgers are chasing a rare World Series three-peat. But the Brewers, who led Major League Baseball with 103 regular-season wins, showed they don't plan on going quietly this year as they seek to return to the championship showcase for just the second time, 44 years after their 1982 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.The game was billed as a duel between the Dodgers' two-time Cy Young Award-winner Tarik Skubal and the Brewers' flame-throwing ace Jacob Misiorowski, but neither pitcher made it to the sixth inning. The Dodgers wore down a sometimes shaky Misiorowski but were rewarded with just one run against him in the second inning. Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani walked on four pitches to open the frame, advanced to second on a Teoscar Hernandez single and scored on a one-out single from Andy Pages. Kyle Tucker worked a walk in a 10-pitch at-bat to load the bases. But Enrique Hernandez hit into a double play, and Misiorowski escaped the inning without further damage. "I didn't think I had my best stuff," Misiorowski said. "Obviously good enough to make it work. Props to my defense behind me and all the support they gave me." Turang tied it with a solo homer off Skubal to open the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Brewers seized a 2-1 lead in the fifth on Luis Lara's run-scoring single off Skubal.Turang, who had fouled a ball of his knee in his prior at-bat, said he was trying to avoid a repeat when he delivered his second career postseason homer. "I was like I'm going to stay inside of this one. Not try to do too much, just drive back up the middle and get inside of it. I just got it... sometimes less is more." One inning later, Lara put the Brewers ahead. Garrett Mitchell had walked to open the bottom of the fifth and reached second on a sacrifice bunt from Cooper Pratt before Lara cracked a ball up the middle that allowed Mitchell to score. The Brewers bullpen made the lead stand up with four relievers combining for four and two-thirds scoreless innings. - 'Our way' - "That bullpen really showed up today and did amazing," Misiorowski said. "And then just the guys laying down a sac bunt to get a guy over and a clutch base hit by Lara -- just, you know, our way." The Dodgers threatened with two outs in the ninth as Brewers closer Trevor Megill issued walks to Tucker and Josue De Paula, but Mookie Betts lofted a high fly caught for the last out.The Brewers will try to double their advantage when they host game two on Monday. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, who will send 2025 World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the mound, said that despite last year's dominant sweep of the Brewers, the Dodgers are ready to grind. "It's going to be a long series," he said. "We knew it coming in. "We had our chances, but they made plays, pitches when they needed to. We've just got to reset. We've got our guy (Yamamoto) going tomorrow, who we trust undoubtedly, and we've got to win a baseball game."

'No limits': Marathon world record holder Sawe chasing history

Sabastian Sawe, the first man to run the marathon in under two hours, believes even faster times are on the horizon both for him and the sport.In April the 31-year-old Kenyan clocked 1:59:30 in London, shattering the two-hour barrier many felt was untouchable."I know it's possible to run under 1:59," Sawe told AFP in an interview in Berlin, adding "it is hard to predict how fast I will be but (it's possible) if we've got nice weather, good pacing and I am in good shape".Sawe said further records will fall as running's popularity skyrockets and technology improves."We don't know about the years in front of us because maybe other people will come along and do something great. There are no limits for now." 'SOMETHING SPECIAL'Even Sawe was shocked by his exploits in London."I was not expecting to run under two hours," he said. "I wanted to retain my title. When I saw (the time) with my eyes as I was almost finishing the race, it was something surprising for me and I was so happy and grateful."The 2025 Berlin winner was set to run in the German capital again on Sunday, but missed out with a fractured leg."It was hard, but I had to accept it because injuries are part of running."Sawe hopes to return for London in 2027 but has his eye on doing "something special" at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics."Now I'm getting to be someone bigger in athletics, I've learned a lot and I've learned patience is important and recovery is important to make you feel fast and strong."Sawe was speaking in Berlin just one day after a brutal injury crushed Tigst Assefa's shot at the women's record. ASSEFA RUPTURED ACHILLES TENDONCruising on world record pace until the 35-kilometre mark, Assefa ruptured her achilles tendon.Running the last two kilometres without an Achilles, the Ethiopian somehow crossed the finish line first, recording the third best women's mark and a course record before collapsing."When I saw what happened I was shocked because she was running a good race this year in Berlin. Everything was perfect for her... She was running to achieve everything she had worked for."Sawe backed the 29-year-old Assefa to chase down the world mark."For sure she will because Tigst is a very strong woman and her mentality is something else. She always has the courage to push her limits. She's always been a winner." 'PROTECTING SPORTS'The brutal injury not only snatched Assefa's shot at history; it stole a chance to overcome a record many believe is tainted.Assefa's 2:11:04 was just over a minute behind the 2:09:56 set by Kenyan Ruth Chepngetich in 2024.A year later, Chepngetich was suspended for three years for doping, but her record still stands.Sawe has done more than most to improve perceptions, particularly in Kenya where more than 100 athletes are currently suspended.For years, Sawe has taken the unusual step of volunteering for extensive additional testing, averaging an additional test every three days on top of national and international requirements."Even with what I have achieved, I want to show the world that not all athletes are running dirty... there was a time where there was more doubt than belief."It's a nice routine for athletes to have multiple tests to prove that they are running clean and winning clean. It shows we are protecting sports for the future."In September, Nairobi was announced as the first African host of the World Athletics Championships, with the Kenyan capital due to host in 2029.Sawe said he hoped his testing regime would help "give a good reputation to my country and show we are fighting doping in many ways"."It's something special to us Kenyans. It's an important moment to have it in our country and we appreciate it so much."

Ohashi embraces LA 2028 challenge after Marchand calls him 'scary'

Japanese teenager Shin Ohashi said he was surprised and honoured that Olympic champion Leon Marchand knew who he was, after the Frenchman described the 17-year-old as a "scary" prospect ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.Ohashi, shattered the men's 200 metres breaststroke world record en route to Asian Games gold in Tokyo last week, clocking 2:04.83 to eclipse the previous mark of 2:05.48 set by China's Qin Haiyang at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka.Marchand, who visited the Asian Games pool, said Ohashi's rapid rise made him a formidable yet exciting challenge as the Frenchman targets a defence of his Olympic title in Los Angeles."First of all, I am really happy that he recognises me," Ohashi told reporters in Nagoya on Monday, when asked about Marchand's comments. 'I HAVE A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF RESPECT FOR MARCHAND'"Personally, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Marchand so, to be honest, he's not someone I particularly want to race against."I respect him because I know just how strong he is. But if I want to win, he's someone I know I'll have to beat."Ohashi, who won five medals including two golds at last year's World Junior Championships, has also claimed five medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, with two titles.His world record performance came just a week after the teenager recovered from COVID-19.Looking ahead to Los Angeles 2028, Ohashi said Marchand and Britain's Filip Nowacki, who beat him at last year's World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, were the benchmark competitors in the event."Both of them are incredibly strong competitors when it comes to winning races," he said.

No jet lag for 49ers as Purdy routs Rams in Australia

The San Francisco 49ers thrashed the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 Friday in the NFL's first-ever regular-season game in Australia, quarterback Brock Purdy throwing for three touchdowns to dismantle this season's heavily hyped favorites.Much of the pre-game talk had surrounded the two California-based teams' wildly different approaches for navigating the epic flight and 17-hour time zone difference to Melbourne and its iconic 100,000-capacity cricket stadium. The Rams had jetted in just the morning before.How far that affected the game will be debated. But reigning MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford and star off-season acquisition Myles Garrett undoubtedly looked sluggish up against their San Francisco counterparts, who arrived a week earlier to acclimatize.Purdy put on a clinical performance, shrugging off a poor early interception to find Demarcus Robinson with a 39-yard touchdown pass, before finding the dangerous Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel in the end zone to seize the game."Just so proud of this team. Hey, we embraced going to Australia -- 15-hour flight, we're here the whole week. It was a grind, but we did it," said 49ers tight end George Kittle.The Rams entered this new NFL season as the clear favorites to win a Super Bowl being held at their SoFi Stadium home in Los Angeles in February, with a formidable defense bolstered by Garrett. 100,021 FANS AT THE MELBOURNE CRICKET GROUNDBut the giant 100,021 crowd packing into the Melbourne Cricket Ground -- the seventh-biggest ever for a regular-season NFL game, despite an unusual morning kickoff time to accommodate US television audiences -- skewed toward San Francisco."I love when they (Rams) came out and they were booing. We was out here for a week. We enjoyed the city. I don't think you can fly 16 hours and be ready to play," 49ers receiver Samuel told Australia's Channel Seven.The Niners started brightly, swiftly forcing a Rams punt and then driving to the red zone and taking an early field goal.The Rams briefly sparked to life with Matthew Stafford's 41-yard pass to Puka Nacua.At 2nd & goal, Stafford handed the ball to Kyren Williams, and the running back sprinted through the heart of the Niners' defensive line for touchdown.Purdy then threw a poor pass that was easily intercepted by Quentin Lake, prompting the Rams defense to pull out a "jet lag" celebration, lying down and pretending to nap in the endzone.The Niners did not seem to appreciate the taunt. Renardo Green snaffled an interception off Stafford, and a long drive resulted in a Demarcus Robinson touchdown from a 39-yard Purdy sling. 'NO EXCUSES'It meant San Francisco took a slender lead into halftime, as play paused for a Jonas Brothers concert on a game broadcast globally by Netflix.San Francisco immediately picked up where they left off, some powerful running by Christian McCaffrey taking them back to the red zone.Evans -- the veteran receiver acquired from Tampa Bay this summer, and a constant dangerous target in the first half -- grabbed a short touchdown pass for 17-7.Another long pass to Nacua advanced the Rams, who reached 1st & goal, but they could not convert the critical chance and yielded a turnover on downs after a resolute 49ers goal-line stop.In the ensuing 99-yard San Francisco drive Samuel grabbed a third touchdown pass from Purdy, who paused and scrambled to his right before picking out his man for 27-7.With barely three minutes remaining, Stafford was strategically withdrawn by coach Sean McVay. The Rams' attention swiftly turned to the flight home."I make no excuses. Whether you want to say it's about travel, whatever. We just weren't good enough," said McVay."I didn't coach good enough, and we'll look at it and we'll move forward."

NFL breaks new ground as 100,000 set to pack MCG in Australia

The growing popularity of American football in Australia will see the NFL play a regular-season game there for the first time when a sellout crowd packs into the 100,000-capacity Melbourne Cricket Ground.The Los Angeles Rams are nominally the home team on Friday when they face the San Francisco 49ers in the second match of the new NFL season, which kicks off this week.Tickets at the cavernous MCG were snapped up within minutes, echoing the interest the NFL has enjoyed when staging games in other overseas markets.This year the league will play in seven countries across four continents in an unprecedented global schedule.Australia -- a sports-mad nation of 28 million people -- is the latest added to the slate, the league saying the country has 6.6 million NFL fans.The apparent growing interest is driven by the popularity of flag football -- a fast-paced, five-a-side, non-contact version of the game. BOOSTED BY LA28 INCLUSIONBoosted by its inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and potentially the Brisbane Games four years later, flag football is now played in 500 Australian schools, up from 10 in 2022 when a pilot programme was launched."Australia has emerged as one of the most exciting growth markets for flag football globally," Charlotte Offord, the NFL's general manager for Australia and New Zealand, said.Offord was speaking last month after the NFL teamed up with American Football Australia (AFA) to expand its national schools programme further as part of a grassroots initiative to boost the game internationally.Australia is seen as a significant overseas market for the NFL.Since 2024 the Gold Coast has been home to an NFL academy with a growing number of Australians making their mark, led by the Philadelphia Eagles' Jordan Mailata, Michael Dickson (Seattle Seahawks) and Cameron Johnston (Pittsburgh Steelers). 'THIS ISN'T A CIRCUS'NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said this week's game was part of their long-term strategy for Australia, despite the logistical challenges and 17-hour time difference to the US West Coast."Our view is that we're coming here for the long-term. We don't come as a one-off, this isn't a circus," he said."This is something that's an investment in this market and we believe that this is long-term and will be great for the NFL long-term."Every ticket that we put out for public sale was gone in a matter of minutes," he added. "I think that's a demonstration of the demand for this event."To cater for a prime-time audience in the United States, the game will kick off at 10:35 am in Australia, which is Thursday evening in the US.The Rams, who are one of the title favourites, and 49ers have taken vastly different approaches to being ready. THE 49ERS ARRIVED LATE LAST WEEKThe 49ers arrived late last week to give themselves time to acclimatise, but the Rams are only due to touch down 24 hours before kick off in a bid to stay as close as possible to West Coast time and avoid jet lag.Speaking in Australia this week, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan had a bit of fun with it all."We're a little confused... when I look at my clock and it says a time and then I try to see my family's time and then it says the time, but it says yesterday," he said."I don't even get how that's possible, so I feel like I'm in the future." SPORTING MELBOURNEThe NFL's touchdown is a massive boost for Melbourne -- considered the sporting capital of Australia -- and kickstarts a host of big events in the city over the next six months.The MCG will host a sold-out Australian Rules Grand Final before the Melbourne Cup horse race, Australian Open golf and the traditional Boxing Day cricket Test.That is followed days later by the Australian Open tennis Grand Slam, a Formula One race and the 150th anniversary Test between Australia and England."Major events like the NFL are economic powerhouses -- they fill our hotels, support our jobs and put Victoria on the world stage," said state minister for major events Anthony Carbines.

American records, another world title and Olympic gold in Los Angeles are all on Noah Lyles' radar after the sprinter shut down his 2026 season and began plotting what he believes could be the defining two years of his career.Lyles, who was forced to end his season early due to injury days before the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships, said on Tuesday that performances this year had convinced him he was capable of running significantly faster than his world-leading 9.79 seconds in the 100 metres."I don't like to put limits on myself," Lyles told reporters on a video call ahead of this week's Ultimate Championships in Budapest, an event he had a big role in designing."In my head, American records definitely come in, touching the stars, going after anything and everything."Tyson Gay set the national 100m record of 9.69 in 2009, while Lyles already owns the U.S. 200m record of 19.31 set in 2022. THE NEED TO PUT A TECHNICALLY COMPLETE RACEHe said he surprised himself by running two 9.7-second races at the U.S. championships despite feeling he had yet to put together a technically complete race."It's proven to myself that I can run very fast, even though I'm not 100% perfect with my first 30 (metres)," he said.The 29-year-old revealed that he and his team would hold planning sessions later this year to map out the next two seasons, describing 2027 as the foundation for his bid to retain his 100m Olympic gold on home soil in Los Angeles."2027 is the building block for 2028," he said. "Let's get that plan smoothed and polished so that when we go into 2028, we're just following the blueprint because we know it's going to work."To maximise his chances, Lyles said he intended to devote more attention to training and competition after a year that included numerous media and promotional commitments, plus a wedding to Jamaican sprinter Junelle Bromfield in April. 'A LOT MORE FOCUS'"I'm putting a lot more focus on more running and a lot less appearances," he said. "I think we've proven this year that in the U.S. and even in the world, the world knows Noah Lyles."The eight-time world champion announced on Friday he was shelving his season, saying a minor strain suffered earlier in the season led to other physical issues that hampered his training.Lyles had raised injury concerns at the U.S. championships in July when he pulled up during the men's 200m final after winning the 100m title in 9.79, which matched his personal best.He later described the issue as a cramp and had indicated he expected to compete in Budapest.The withdrawal of one of the sport's most recognisable stars is a blow to World Athletics' new season-ending showcase that offers a record $10-million prize purse. The 29-year-old said he still planned to attend the event which runs Friday through Sunday.

Super Bowl rematch kicks off wide-open NFL season

* Reigning champions Seattle kick off season on Wednesday* NFL 2026 season features record nine international games* Chiefs QB Mahomes slated to return from knee injury* Star-studded Rams early favourites to win Super Bowl The 2026 NFL season kicks off on Wednesday with a Super Bowl rematch, launching a wide-open title chase that will include a record nine international games played across four continents before a champion is crowned on Valentine's Day in Los Angeles.The road to Super Bowl LXI, set for the shared home of the Rams and Chargers on February 14, looks unpredictable following an offseason that reshuffled rosters, coaching staff and championship odds.The Seattle Seahawks will get the 2026 campaign underway when they unveil their Super Bowl championship banner before hosting the New England Patriots in the first Wednesday season-opener since 2012.The unusual scheduling clears the runway for the league's most ambitious international push yet.The NFL's slate of international games this season will span seven countries and eight stadiums, starting on Friday in Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where the San Francisco 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams in the first NFL regular-season game Down Under.From there it is on to Rio de Janeiro, where the Baltimore Ravens meet the Dallas Cowboys at the Maracana, followed by three games in London, plus stops in Paris, Madrid, Munich and Mexico City. ROSTERS RESHUFFLED ACROSS THE LEAGUEThere has been no shortage of change around the league since Seattle rode a dominant defense to the franchise's second Lombardi Trophy in February.The Rams, already regarded as the Super Bowl favourites, got bolder. Cleveland sent Myles Garrett to Los Angeles for Jared Verse and multiple draft picks, a trade that only hardened the belief the Rams were a Super Bowl favourite. Aaron Donald then came out of retirement to rejoin the team he helped to win it all in 2022.New England, the league's parity poster child after rocketing from the AFC East basement to the Super Bowl in a single year, added firepower of their own by trading for Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.The Seahawks return largely intact in their bid to repeat but face a question mark in the backfield after Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III left for Kansas City in free agency.The Kansas City Chiefs enter the campaign facing plenty of uncertainty, most notably how quarterback Patrick Mahomes will fare on his return after suffering a season-ending ACL tear in his left knee in December.Mahomes, who led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles over a five-year span, did not appear in any preseason games as a precautionary measure but appears to be on track for their September 14 opener against the Denver Broncos.Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy said he had no doubts about Mahomes's return, adding that his teammate's determination throughout the recovery process stood out."His grind, his will and want-to is beyond anybody I’ve ever seen,” said Worthy. "Whatever he puts his mind to, that’s what he’s going to do. He kind of leads the team in that way."There has been plenty of buzz around Fernando Mendoza, who the Las Vegas Raiders selected first overall at the NFL Draft, but his regular-season debut will have to wait as the team have named veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins as their starter. COACHING CAROUSEL GIVES SIDELINES A NEW LOOKSidelines saw just as much turnover as rosters. A record-tying 10 teams hired new head coaches this offseason, six of them getting their first shot at the job.Among the newcomers, Jesse Minter inherits a Super Bowl-caliber Ravens roster built around two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, while the Buffalo Bills promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace the fired Sean McDermott after years of postseason heartbreak.Perhaps no storyline captures the league's blend of youth and longevity better than Pittsburgh's. Four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, at 42 the oldest player in the league, returns for a 22nd season to reunite with new head coach Mike McCarthy - the pair won a Super Bowl together with the Green Bay Packers in February 2011.Former Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who stepped down in January after 19 seasons, believes the pairing has a chance to sneak up on the league."I think that's the only reason Aaron comes back. He believes it, I believe it. I don't think he comes back if he doesn't believe that," Tomlin said on "The Rich Eisen Show"."They're probably not being talked about in the ways that some others are being talked about, but that can be a good motivator and a catalyst for them as well. I think they got high expectations, and I think they should have high expectations."

How cricket could become the IOC’s gateway to India

* International Olympic Committee sees South Asia as underserved market where cricket could deepen Games engagement* Cricket can widen Olympic reach in younger demographics, says International Cricket Council's Sanjog Gupta* T20's three-hour format made Olympic inclusion practical after years of discussions* Cricket has 2.5 billion fans worldwide, estimates IOC  When cricket returns to the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028, it will bring far more than bats, balls and wickets. Its inclusion reflects a strategic calculation by Olympic leaders that the surest route to billions of new viewers runs through India, cricket’s commercial heartland and a country they believe is increasingly central to the Games’ future.Cricket, absent from the Olympics since 1900, offers the International Olympic Committee something no recent addition has: direct access to a fan base of more than 2 billion people and, crucially, the commercial power of the Indian market. As the Games seek a younger and broader audience, it may prove the most valuable sport added to the Olympic programme in decades.Cricket has been one of the major global sports not to feature in the Olympics, IOC Sports Director Pierre Ducrey told Reuters in an interview."It is very strong in markets where maybe you could say the Olympic Games today may not have penetrated as much as they have in other markets," he said."Cricket will bring to the LA Games audiences that may not necessarily tune in regularly to watch the Olympic Games," Ducrey added. "It's a win-win compromise where we'll give them more opportunities, and they will definitely strengthen our appeal in markets that are very strongly interested in cricket and sometimes mostly in cricket."INTEREST IN BROADCASTING RIGHTS  The sport's imminent return to the Olympics has already generated demand, with the IOC confirming "strong interest" in broadcasting rights for the Indian subcontinent for the 2028 Games.That would amount to "a multiple" of the value of the 2024 Games contract, IOC Television and Marketing Services Managing Director Anne-Sophie Voumard told Indian media late last year. The Paris 2024 contract was estimated to be worth around $30 million."Regarding media rights for the LA28 Olympic Games in the Indian subcontinent, we are currently engaged in constructive discussions with a number of key players across the region," an IOC spokesperson told Reuters."We can confirm that there has been strong interest from the market, reflecting both the momentum behind the LA28 Olympic Games and the addition of cricket to the sports programme."There are already close relationships between the Olympics and cricket in the region's media market. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Indian broadcaster JioStar, formed from the Reliance Industries and Walt Disney merger of their Indian media assets in 2024, owned the rights for the Paris 2024 Games and the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games, and also holds the rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League, the country's top cricket league.Ambani's wife Nita is an IOC member and hosted the 2023 IOC session in Mumbai.T20 RISECricket returned to the Olympic conversation after the IOC recognised the International Cricket Council in 2010, but the sport's traditional five-day Tests and eight-hour one-day internationals remained impractical for the Games. The breakthrough came with the explosive rise of Twenty20, a three-hour format whose popularity coincided with IOC reforms in 2014 allowing host cities to propose additional sports, paving the way for Los Angeles to bring cricket back in 2028.Beyond its brevity, the high volatility and international reach of T20 made it tailor-made for the Olympics, said ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta, who was previously the CEO of sports and live experiences at JioStar."The jeopardy or the unpredictability that live sports benefit from is maximised in this format," Gupta told Reuters. Unlike Test matches, which are restricted to the ICC's 12 full members, T20 can claim to be cricket's true global format."Avenues of participation have been expanded significantly to really position this format as cricket's handshake with the world," Gupta said. "It's global, more accessible and representative. T20 ticks all the right boxes."LONG PROCESSLA28 will mark the end of a 21-year journey that started with cricket's provisional recognition by the IOC back in 2007."The interests of some of the federations, the interests of the Olympic movement at large, sometimes converge, sometimes they don't," Ducrey said. "And it took some time for the interests of the International Cricket Council, of the sport of cricket at large, and those of the Olympic movement to align in a more significant way that led to the discussions around the 2028 program.""So a long journey, but I would say one that was consistently getting our movements and our sports, and our interests closer and closer." Cricket’s commercial rise has been fuelled by the Indian Premier League, which has transformed the sport over the past two decades, attracting the world’s leading players and becoming one of the most valuable sports competitions globally. The 10-team IPL is now valued at around $20 billion, with the 2026 season drawing 1.2 billion viewers across platforms. OLYMPIC FUTURECricket is expected to remain in the Games beyond 2028. The 2032 Games will be held in Brisbane, Australia - another country with a strong cricketing tradition - and India is heavily pushing Ahmedabad to host the Games in 2036.Beyond geographic expansion, cricket offers a highly coveted demographic.According to ICC chief executive Gupta, nearly 50% of followers are under 35 and 35% are under 27, making cricket "future-ready".By including cricket, the Olympic movement is poised to reap a significant "demographic dividend", said Gupta. "As the Olympic movement looks to the future of its own significance and relevance of sport in various markets, cricket can potentially play a huge role in driving that forward," he said."Cricket is the fastest growing large-scale team sport in the world. It's a massive opportunity for the Olympic movement to ride on."
