The 2027 Formula 1 calendar has been officially confirmed, marking the return of the Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix to Lusail International Circuit (LIC) on December 3 to 5.Being the 23rd round, the Qatar Grand Prix will once again be the penultimate race of the season, as Formula 1 rounds off a 24-race calendar that also welcomes the return of the Turkish and Portuguese Grand Prix after several years away.Lusail International Circuit has hosted F1 since Qatar made its debut on the calendar in 2021 and is now among a select group of venues to host all three major motorsport events – F1, MotoGP and the FIA World Endurance Championship. **media[492396]**Having successfully hosted Sprint weekends in past seasons, LIC will feature the format again in 2027 as one of only 10 Sprint rounds on the calendar this year, giving fans an additional opportunity to experience competitive on-track action.The Sprint is a shorter race held on Saturday of a Grand Prix weekend, covering approximately 100km and featuring its own points-scoring system and podium ahead of the main Grand Prix on Sunday.The 5.38km circuit, with its 16 turns and multiple overtaking opportunities, has become renowned for close and fast racing, while its world-class lighting system creates one of the sport’s most distinctive settings.Positioned near the end of the 2027 calendar, Qatar Grand Prix stand to carry significant weight in the closing stages of the season, offering crucial points across both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships as the title fights reach their peak.In the meantime, tickets for this year’s Qatar Grand Prix are still available to purchase now at tickets.lcsc.qa. 2027 Formula One calendar includes Monaco sprint race The 2027 Formula One calendar unveiled will feature 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries and 10 sprint events, including Monaco. Pre-season testing is scheduled to take place in Bahrain from February 24-27 before the first race is held there on March 12-14, followed by Saudi Arabia a week later. The FIA will be hoping that those events in the Gulf do not suffer the disruption they have experienced this year due to the repercussions of the US-led war on Iran. This year's season is scheduled to end with races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi but Formula One has contingency plans if those races cannot be held for safety reasons as a result of the ongoing conflict. The 2027 season is also due to conclude in Abu Dhabi. The European leg of the 2027 calendar includes the return of Portugal in June, with Turkey rejoining the calendar in October between the races in Azerbaijan and Singapore. The Netherlands drops out of the calendar in 2027.

Formula Two driver Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak escaped unhurt after his car burst into flames during practice on Friday when he crashed into a safety barrier, underlining driver fears about the safety of the new Madring circuit which will host its first Spanish Grand Prix this weekend.The driver, who spun before hitting the barriers at Turn 19, emerged uninjured from the accident and managed to climb out of his cockpit on his own, even though the rear of his car was already on fire.The session was halted for around half an hour to allow time to clean the track and repair the safety barrier that had absorbed the impact.It follows last month's testing by F3 drivers which saw 19 red flags across two days, albeit not all of them were for crashes, and concerns from Formula One drivers ahead of Sunday's race."When I heard about the 20 red flags in Formula 3, I was a bit surprised," said Mercedes's George Russell on Thursday."But when I then drove the circuit in the simulator, I was actually more surprised that there were only 20 red flags. It's a mad circuit."I'd even go so far as to say it's the riskiest track on the entire calendar."Madring has 22 corners and features blind turns and an impressive banked corner of up to 24 degrees called 'La Monumental'."I'll put my money on a red flag," said Alpine's Pierre Gasly.The semi-permanent circuit winds around Ifema, Madrid's exhibition centre, and is located to the north of the city, near Real Madrid's training complex and Barajas Airport.F1 drivers will get a first taste of the circuit during the opening free practice session later Friday.

The Bahrain Grand Prix, which was cancelled in April due to the Middle East war, will be held in Malaysia in early October, Formula One organisers announced on Sunday. “Formula 1 and the FIA can confirm that Malaysia will host the... Bahrain Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit from October 2-4 2026,” F1 and motorsport's world governing body said in a statement. The original F1 calendar featured 24 races but those in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled because of the war. Sepang circuit, near Kuala Lumpur's international airport, returns to the calendar for the first time since 2017 to host what will be called the "Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia".The track has also been the venue for a MotoGP race since 1999. It will slot in between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on September 26 and the Singapore Grand Prix on October 11, restoring the championship to 23 races. “This is fantastic news for our fans. They will continue to enjoy a full and exciting Formula 1 calendar, while also seeing the sport return to a great venue,” said Domenicali. “Malaysia is an incredible country, and Sepang holds a special place in Formula 1 history. "It will provide a spectacular setting for racing and an unforgettable experience for fans at the circuit and watching around the world." 

The 94th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be a significant milestone for Team Qatar as they prepare to enter the prestigious endurance race for the first time. Partnering with Iron Lynx, the team will field a Mercedes-AMG in the LMGT3 class at the Circuit de la Sarthe.It marks a historic next step for Team Qatar as they ambitiously compete on the global stage in one of the most challenging and demanding races in motorsport. The vision for expansion into elite competition forms part of the wider strategic ambitions of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF), alongside its continued commitment to supporting and developing motorsport within Qatar.The No. 62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx entry combines international experience with Qatari representation in the driver line-up. Taking to the wheel for the 24-hour race will be Giuliano Alesi, son of former Ferrari Formula 1 race winner Jean Alesi, alongside Germany Julian Hanses and Qatar’s own Abdulla al-Khelaifi.One of the enduring features of Le Mans is the three separate classes that compete simultaneously on the same track across the 24 hours. The split of the grid into three distinct categories - Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGT3 - creates the multi-class challenge that defines endurance racing. Each class has its own technical regulations, from cutting-edge manufacturer-designed prototypes to production-based GT machinery.This year’s 24-hour race features 62 cars on the entry list, with 14 major automotive manufacturers set to battle for honors. The Hypercar class features the fastest, cutting-edge prototypes from brands such as Ferrari, Toyota, Cadillac and Aston Martin. The entries below Hypercar compete in the Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2) class, which is reserved for privateer teams independent from manufacturers and engine suppliers. Team Qatar will compete in LMGT3, the largest of the three classes, with 25 entries and 75 drivers. LMGT3 features race-going versions of some of the world’s most recognizable high-performance sports cars with the GT machines modified for competition, featuring aerodynamic upgrades, racing suspension and bespoke electronics. The key to success is managing traffic, driver rotations, as well as pit stop strategy. Consistency, and avoiding penalties, can often prove more critical than outright speed.Manufacturers in the class showcase GT machinery from the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, Aston Martin, McLaren, BMW, Ford, Lexus and Mercedes-AMG, with cars weighing around 1,250kg and capable of speeds approaching 300km/h. A defining feature of LMGT3 is the Pro-Am structure, meaning every line-up must include at least one Bronze-rated driver, alongside a Silver-rated competitor, blending experience with rising talent.While competing at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 13-14 is a milestone moment for Qatari motorsport, it also represents the next chapter in an endurance racing journey which began back in 2023. In its debut season, Team Qatar secured the Porsche 992 (Am) Teams’ Championship in the Middle East Trophy, achieving consistent podium finishes across rounds held in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Kuwait.The team also expanded into European competition and, in subsequent seasons, became regular front-runners across six, 12, and 24-hour endurance races. In 2025, Team Qatar continued its success with victory in the Amateur (Am) class for the Porsche 992 Generation at the 24 Hours of Dubai, widely regarded as one of the region’s most competitive endurance events and also celebrated success in the 2025 Middle East Trophy, securing the Porsche 992 Teams’ Championship, underlining its consistency across an intensely competitive international season.That momentum continued into the following year with class victories in the 6 Hours of Abu Dhabi and the 12 Hours of Mugello, the latter marking a significant international triumph against established European teams and further highlighting Team Qatar’s progress in elite motorsport. The team further strengthened its endurance racing credentials at the 12 Hours of Spa‑Francorchamps, capturing second place in the Porsche 992 category and victory in the Porsche 992 AM category.Team Qatar’s growing reputation on the international stage was further demonstrated in the opening rounds of the 2026 European Le Mans Series (ELMS). At the Barcelona season-opener, the team claimed LMGT3 pole position, while al‑Khelaifi was named Most Valuable Driver after leading for nearly three-quarters of the race, before securing fourth overall in class.Team Qatar maintained that momentum into Round 2 at Paul Ricard, securing a second consecutive LMGT3 pole position and reinforcing its competitiveness against some of Europe’s most established endurance racing teams.The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a point-scoring round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), and since 2024 the Qatar 1812 KM has been part of the calendar, bringing top-level international endurance racing to the Lusail International Circuit (LI  Karim Rizkallah claimed a dramatic victory in Round 3 of the Qatar Karting Championship (QKC) after edging Victor Litaudon by a razor-thin margin of just 0.031 seconds in the Grand Final at Lusail International Circuit on Tuesday night. Competing on the 1.124km Lusail track, Rizkallah completed the 12-lap race in 12 minutes 49.943 seconds, narrowly holding off Litaudon in one of the closest finishes of the season. Rizkallah also clocked the fastest lap of the race at 1:02.886.Litaudon stayed glued to the leader throughout the race and crossed the line only fractions behind in 12:49.974, while Alfie McElroy secured third place after finishing 5.320 seconds off the pace.Felice Carena delivered another consistent performance to finish fourth, with championship leader Tameem Hassiba rounding off the top five after a solid drive that helped him strengthen his position in the standings.Following three rounds, Hassiba continues to lead the championship with 60 points, having collected 25 points in Round 2 and 10 in Round 3 after his opening-round tally. Litaudon sits second overall on 54 points, while Round 3 winner Rizkallah moved closer to the top after climbing to third with 52 points.Danish Quereshi remains fourth in the standings on 44 points, while Arkadiusz Barski completes the top five with 27 points despite failing to finish in Round 3.

Team Qatar delivered an outstanding performance at the opening round of the 2026 European Le Mans Series, securing a remarkable victory in the 992 AM category at the prestigious race held at Mugello Circuit. The Qatari trio of Abdulla al-Khelaifi, Ahmad al-Emadi, and Faesal Al-Yafei showcased exceptional teamwork, consistency, and racecraft throughout the demanding endurance event. The race format was uniquely divided into two parts. Part 1, held on Saturday, featured 5 hour 30 minutes of intense racing, during which Team Qatar set the tone early by taking the lead in the 992 AM category. Demonstrating strong pace and strategic precision, the team maintained their advantage heading into the overnight break. On Sunday, Part 2 resumed with the remaining 6 hours 30 minutes of racing. Despite the challenges of endurance competition, including tire management, and sustained focus, the Team Qatar drivers executed a flawless continuation of their performance. They successfully defended their position, ultimately crossing the finish line in P1, sealing a well-deserved victory. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Team Qatar, highlighting the drivers’ growing presence on the international endurance racing scene and reinforcing Qatar’s reputation in global motorsport. 

The fourth and penultimate round of the Qatar Superstock 600 (QSTK 600) Championship delivered another weekend of thrilling action as the title race tightened up at the Lusail International Circuit. In QSTK 600, Mashal al-Naimi opened the round with a commanding victory in Race 1, completing 12 laps in 25:18.209 to lead in his Yamaha R6. Russia’s Dmitry Sedin finished second on a Kawasaki ZX-6, while Abdulla al-Qubaisi completed the podium. Sedin booked another podium spot when he topped the QSTK Trophy Class while India’s Jonathan Emmanuel came second and Hungary’s Marton Belleli finished third. Race 2 saw al-Qubaisi strike back in style, taking a dominant win in 20:48.010 in the 10-lap race ahead of al-Naimi and al-Mutawa who finished second and third respectively. This time, Emmanuel topped the QSTK Trophy class ahead of Belleli and Russia’s Yuri Nekrasov. After Race 2, al-Naimi and al-Qubaisi are locked at the top of the Superstock 600 standings on 180 points each, with Geoffrey Emmanuel third on 115. In Supersport 300 category, Mahmoud Elbanna leads the championship standings with 157 points, followed by Andrea Giacchero (109) and Nolan Macary (100), with riders now heading to the final round which will take place on February 27-28.
