In support of the national Purple Saturday Initiative, HOPE Qatar Centre for Persons with Disabilities successfully concluded its Purple Saturday Week 2026, held from July 25 to August 1 under the theme “Unity in Purple.” Throughout the week, the centre delivered a comprehensive awareness campaign that brought together children, families, youth volunteers, educators, and the wider community through awareness workshops, inclusive activities, volunteer engagement, and digital advocacy. The initiative reinforced the Centre’s commitment to promoting acceptance, understanding, and meaningful inclusion of persons with disabilities across Qatar. Throughout the week, the centre implemented a diverse programme of activities designed to promote awareness, encourage interaction, and strengthen social inclusion.**media[475887]**The week featured themed inclusive celebrations, including Yellow Day, Hats Day, Watermelon Fiesta, Floral Day, interactive arts and crafts, and collaborative activities where children with and without disabilities learned, played, and celebrated together. In parallel, the centre maintained a sustained social media awareness campaign, extending the message of Purple Saturday beyond its premises and encouraging the wider community to embrace diversity, accessibility, and the inclusion of persons with disabilities. A key highlight of the initiative was the Awareness Workshop, “Inclusion Starts with Me,” delivered by Dr Rizwanah Adeebh. The workshop encouraged participants to move beyond awareness by developing a deeper understanding of disability, challenging misconceptions, and becoming advocates for inclusion. It also introduced the centre’s HOPE Sadeeqi Programme, which promotes lifelong friendships between persons with disabilities and their peers, demonstrating that genuine inclusion begins with meaningful relationships and everyday acts of acceptance. The Purple Saturday initiative generated significant community engagement and measurable impact. A total of 80 students participated in the week’s inclusive activities, while 40 youth volunteers actively supported the campaign and awareness workshop by assisting with activities, engaging with students, and promoting the message of inclusion. All participating volunteers were enrolled in the centre’s HOPE Sadeeqi Programme, reinforcing its commitment to fostering lasting friendships and developing a growing network of young inclusion ambassadors. Through its awareness workshop, inclusive activities, volunteer engagement, and digital advocacy, the initiative contributed to strengthening public understanding of disability inclusion and encouraging positive action that extends well beyond Purple Saturday. As part of the Purple Saturday Initiative, the centre also introduced a special community offer, providing families who enrolled during the campaign with complimentary developmental screening and free access to the August Summer Camp. The initiative aimed to encourage more children to benefit from the Centre’s specialised education, intervention services, and life skills programmes. Reflecting on the success of the initiative, HOPE Qatar Centre for Persons with Disabilities reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to promoting acceptance, accessibility, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. Through initiatives such as Purple Saturday Week and the HOPE Sadeeqi Programme, the centre continues to foster a more inclusive society where every individual is respected, valued, and empowered to participate fully in community life. 

Qatar University (QU) has announced the admission of more than 6,000 female and male students to the university's Bachelor's degree programmes for the Fall 2026 semester.  The QU noted that the admission included all Qatari students who met the minimum admission requirements across the university's various colleges.  In a statement on the admission results, QU vice-president (Student Affairs) Dr Mohammed Diab affirmed the university’s commitment to providing all necessities to ensure a successful experience for the new students, accompanying them every step of the way toward a university journey rich in accomplishments.  He also called on all applicants to check their admission decisions through the university's official website, mybanner.qu.edu.qa, using their electronic admission accounts.  Dr Diab said that classes for the Fall 2026 semester will begin for all students on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with the add/drop period concluding on Thursday, August 27, 2026.  The online orientation programme for new students will be held starting on Sunday, August 16, 2026.  Admitted students across all colleges will be contacted via their university e-mail address with details and links to access the programme's interactive online platform, which includes video and written orientation materials.  The orientation programme aims to provide students with key information on university life, academic regulations and policies, and student services, and help new students use the university's electronic systems, including the online portal, university e-mail, and academic advising services, making it easier for them to select and register for their courses with flexibility and ease.  Attending and completing the orientation programme is mandatory in order to finalise students' admission procedures at the university and enable them to register for their Fall 2026 semester courses.

Qatar Chamber hosted a delegation from the UAE’s AIM Congress 2026 Organising Committee, which invited the chamber to participate in the upcoming event.Officials attending the meeting included Qatar Chamber board member Ali bin Abdullatif al-Misnad, UAE ambassador Saeed Abdullah al-Qamzi, and committee chairman Dawood al-Shezawi.The meeting was also attended by board member Abdulrahman bin Abduljaleel al-Abdulghani, acting general manager Ali Bu Sherbak al-Mansouri, representatives of several Qatari entities, including the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Invest Qatar, Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ), and Manateq (Economic Zones Company), as well as several business leaders from both countries.Al-Misnad lauded the strong fraternal and economic relations between Qatar and the UAE, noting that bilateral trade exceeded QR30bn last year, compared to QR28bn in 2024, in addition to mutual investments across diverse sectors.He stressed that the AIM Congress has become a vital global platform for investment dialogue. It plays an important role in fostering dialogue on the future of investment, showcasing promising opportunities, and exchanging expertise and best practices, thereby supporting sustainable economic development and strengthening international partnerships, he also said.Al-Misnad expressed Qatar Chamber’s and the Qatari private sector’s aspiration to participate in this year’s edition, noting that its focus on green energy, sustainable development, digital transformation, AI, entrepreneurship, and innovation makes it an important platform for addressing issues shaping the future of the global economy.He further emphasised the chamber's commitment to participating in international economic events, given their importance in enhancing communication among business communities, exploring new avenues for cooperation and investment, and building strategic partnerships between the Qatari private sector and its global counterparts.Al-Shezawi invited the chamber and the Qatari private sector to participate in the AIM Congress, taking place on September 7 to 9 at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the theme ‘Reshaping Global Prosperity: Unlocking New Investment Pathways Towards a Sustainable and Inclusive Future’.He also invited all relevant entities to participate in the congress and benefit from the opportunities it offers to promote Qatar's investment potential and explore cooperation and partnership opportunities with global investors and business leaders.Al-Shezawi highlighted that the event centres on three core pillars: global markets, future economies, and next generations. Building on the previous edition’s success, which drew over 15,000 participants from 181 countries and 74 ministers, the congress offers Qatari entities a premier platform to showcase investment potential and forge global partnerships, he said.Al-Qamzi also praised the deep-rooted ties between Qatar and the UAE. Encouraging strong Qatari participation in the upcoming AIM Congress, the ambassador described the event as a premier global stage for expanding investment flows, fostering innovation, and addressing economic challenges.He emphasised that the involvement of Qatar’s business leaders and institutions will add immense value, creating new avenues for private-sector cooperation and advancing broader Gulf economic integration.Al-Mansouri reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to participating in global economic events. He highlighted that these platforms allow Qatari businesses to connect with international counterparts, explore cross-border partnerships, and identify high-value investments, ultimately driving international expansion and reinforcing Qatar's standing as a leading regional and global business hub. 

Aspire Summer Camp 2026 officially concluded its activities after five weeks filled with sports, educational activities, and interactive experiences. From the camp’s launch at the Ladies Sports Hall to the closing activities at Aspire Dome, children aged 6 to 14 enjoyed a rewarding experience that enabled them to discover new sports, enhance their skills, and spend time in an engaging, energetic environment. The closing ceremony, held Thursday at Aspire Dome, brought together the children to celebrate the successful conclusion of the activity-packed programme. The ceremony began with recognising the participants’ achievements, followed by honouring the camp sponsors and expressing appreciation to the dedicated volunteers who supported the programme throughout the summer. The children also received gifts and certificates of appreciation for their efforts, and the celebrations concluded with enjoyable entertainment and interactive performances.**media[473995]**Throughout the summer, campers took part in an array of activities, ranging from sports and educational workshops to weekly field trips across Doha to discover cultural landmarks. Outings took campers to Creative Arts in Msheireb Downtown Doha, where they explored co-working spaces, labs, and community networking opportunities for designers and artists; to the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, located beside Khalifa International Stadium, to learn about the region’s rich sporting heritage; and to Bounce Doha, an indoor trampoline park offering wall-to-wall trampolines and exciting challenges for all ages. When they weren’t exploring the city, the programme kept every camper active and engaged with a full roster of sports and activities, from football, basketball, and volleyball to self-defence, arts and crafts, gymnastics, swimming, and much more. Ahmed Mohammed al-Hassan, Events and Venues director, stated: “At Aspire Zone, we believe that building an active and healthy community starts with our youth. This summer was about giving boys and girls of all ages and abilities the opportunity to move, grow, and thrive. From the sports courts to educational workshops, to the locations around Doha, we wanted every camper to leave inspired, and we are proud to celebrate them today.” This year’s camp is supported by its official sponsors: Jetour, Qatar Sports for All Federation, Qommunication, Baladna, and AlHadaf.

A US government map of Africa mislabeled every country during a State Department presentation at a global conference taking place in Brazil this week, causing a stir among attendees who took screenshots and posted them online.Reuters viewed a video of the presentation given at the Aids 2026 conference in Rio de Janeiro, which shows the errant map displayed halfway during a presentation about the US State Department’s new health agreements.A Reuters analysis found the image of the map included in the presentation contained an artificial intelligence watermark that signals it was made with OpenAI tools.The company said it was investigating the report.The State Department said it took “full responsibility” for the confusion caused and that the map had been produced by a team member who hastily changed the slide deck before the event.The map showed Nigeria, where the US currently has several hundred troops deployed, as landlocked in the Sahara Desert.Mozambique, which is in southeastern Africa, was relocated to the Horn of Africa, while Ivory Coast in West Africa was placed on the other side of the continent.Screenshots of the map first appeared in a Substack post by Aids expert Emily Bass and were widely shared on LinkedIn, with one post garnering some 40,000 views.“Whoever created and approved this slide did not know where countries in Africa are and did not care to check their work,” wrote Matt Petit, who focuses on AI and geopolitics at the Atlantic Council, in the post.In a statement, the State Department said: “We take full responsibility for the confusion and misrepresentation it caused for attendees, including our African partners.”The speaker at the conference was Jeff Graham, the top US health envoy who oversees an initiative known as the President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief, or PEPFAR.He did not reply to requests for comment.The State Department said the discussions at the conference were “substantive and constructive” despite the map and that it remains committed to fighting Aids with real results.The Trump administration’s decision last year to pause funding pending a review disrupted aid programmes worldwide but PEPFAR’s core work such as the provision of life-saving drugs has largely resumed.The US is scaling back other areas of its spending including on prevention and surveillance, and plans to fully phase out the programme in South Africa.

Qatar has cemented its place among the world’s most competitive economies by ranking second globally in the labour market index of the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook — a landmark achievement underlining its success in attracting talent, strengthening business efficiency and advancing Qatar National Vision 2030.  Economists said the ranking reflected the strength and flexibility of the national economy, sustained labour reforms, digital transformation, modern infrastructure and improvements in government services and the investment environment.  Qatar Chamber Acting General Manager Ali Bu Sherbak al-Mansori said the achievement demonstrated the success of economic policies and legislative and regulatory reforms introduced in recent years. These had helped build a competitive labour market that safeguarded the rights of both workers and employers.  He told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the ranking would bolster local and international business confidence in Qatar’s stable and transparent investment environment, supported by advanced infrastructure and business-friendly legislation.  Al-Mansori said the private sector was benefiting directly through easier access to specialised talent and expertise, enabling Qatari companies to grow, expand and compete regionally and internationally.  The ranking would also support the Third National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.  He said Qatar Chamber would continue working with government bodies to strengthen public-private partnerships and create a more competitive and sustainable business environment.  The achievement follows the National Planning Council’s announcement on June 23 that Qatar ranked first regionally and among the world’s five leading economies for economic resilience in the same 2026 IMD yearbook.  Qatar also ranked first globally for its balance of trade and recorded the world’s lowest unemployment, youth unemployment and long-term unemployment rates, while maintaining one of the highest national savings rates.  Economic expert Dr Abdullah al-Khater said Qatar’s latest ranking resulted from sustained efforts to improve the working environment, implement labour market strategies and develop business incubators, research centres and educational institutions supporting skills and human capital.  He said Qatar’s hosting of major sporting and economic events had equipped young people and public and private institutions with valuable practical, technical and organisational expertise.  This had helped attract international talent, companies and investment. Al-Khater added that Qatar’s growing competitiveness would accelerate the adoption of modern management practices and digital transformation, saving time and resources while advancing the country’s development agenda.  The milestone builds on Qatar’s strong performance across several international indices. In the 2025 Global Peace Index, it ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and 27th globally among 163 countries, improving by two places.  It was also rated eighth globally and first in the Arab world among the safest and most socially peaceful countries.  Qatar entered the global top 10 of the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook for the first time in 2025, ranking ninth overall. Its Business Efficiency ranking rose from 11th to fifth, while it retained seventh place in both Economic Performance and Government Efficiency.  The country also advanced three places in infrastructure and ranked among the top 20 of the 69 economies covered by the 2025 IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking.  It has secured strong positions in indices covering innovation, healthcare, food security, digital transformation, public transport and soft power.  GCC-Stat said Qatar’s second-place labour market ranking reflected the market’s efficiency, attractiveness and ability to draw skilled professionals.  It added that the wider GCC results demonstrated the success of economic policies and structural reforms aimed at improving business environments and promoting sustainable development.  The Switzerland-based IMD publishes the World Competitiveness Yearbook annually, assessing participating economies across Economic Performance, Government Efficiency, Business Efficiency and Infrastructure.  The report is widely used by policymakers, investors and business leaders.

Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the appointment of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani as President of the association and Sheikh Tamim bin Mohammed Al-Thani as Vice President. In a statement, the QFA said the appointments were approved by the Executive Committee during its meeting Tuesday. The statement also said that the decision was intended to complete the current Board of Directors' term through 2027 and will be submitted for ratification at the QFA General Assembly, which is scheduled to convene in September. The QFA Executive Committee had previously decided to nominate two members to fill the positions of President and Vice President following the resignations of Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, the former QFA President, and Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Suwaidi, the former Vice President, in accordance with the applicable procedures and regulations. The Executive Committee meeting also reviewed the association's activities and the latest developments, in addition to a report on the Qatar national team's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Angelo Scalzone of Qatar to secure a hard-fought victory for silver in the men’s trap event at the ISSF World Cup 2026 in Hangzhou on Monday. William Hinton of the United States held off a relentless challenge from Scalzone in the final series to clinch gold.The victory represents another important milestone for Hinton, who demonstrated exceptional consistency throughout the competition and converted it into one of the biggest international successes of his career.In a final packed with Olympic medallists, world champions and rising talents, Hinton delivered the composure required when the pressure was at its highest. After dropping two targets in the opening stages, the American settled into an outstanding rhythm, producing long sequences of perfect shooting to build momentum heading into the closing rounds.Scalzone refused to let the contest slip away. The Qatari shooter matched Hinton target for target through much of the final, ensuring the battle for gold remained alive until the very end. Ultimately, one late miss proved decisive as Hinton finished with 28 hits, one ahead of Scalzone’s 27, to capture the World Cup title.The home crowd had further reason to celebrate as Qi Ying claimed the bronze medal for China. Remaining firmly in medal contention throughout the eliminations, Qi finished with 22 hits, earning a well-deserved place on the podium after another composed display.Italy’s Massimo Fabbrizi, the London 2012 Olympic silver medallist and one of the most experienced athletes in international trap shooting, narrowly missed out on the medals. He finished fourth with 16 hits, ending his campaign just short of another ISSF World Cup podium.Chinese Taipei’s Yang Kun-Pi took fifth place with 13 hits, while India’s Bhowneesh Mendiratta followed in sixth on 11 after reaching another World Cup final.The United States placed a second athlete in the final, with Jack Brosseau finishing seventh after scoring eight hits.Completing the eight-athlete field was Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo, one of the most decorated shotgun shooters in ISSF history. The four-time Olympic medallist exited in eighth place with seven hits, bringing an early end to his bid for another World Cup medal.The men’s trap final provided another thrilling conclusion to the shotgun programme in Hangzhou. France’s Carole Cormenier reaffirmed her status among the world’s leading shotgun athletes by capturing the women’s trap title yesterday, holding off a strong challenge from the United States’ Rachel Tozier to secure gold.Cormenier was in control throughout much of the final. After opening with a perfect first round, the French shooter maintained remarkable consistency as the eliminations unfolded, missing just three targets on her way to 27 hits. Even as the pressure mounted in the closing stages, she remained composed to seal her first World Cup victory of the season.The gold medal adds another significant achievement to the résumé of the French star. A World Championship medallist, European champion and regular finalist on the ISSF circuit, Cormenier has been one of the most consistent trap shooters of the past decade, and her performance in Hangzhou demonstrated exactly why.The battle for silver remained alive until the final series. Rachel Tozier matched Cormenier through the early stages before a handful of late misses left her with 25 hits. The American nevertheless enjoyed an outstanding competition, collecting another ISSF World Cup medal and continuing her steady rise among the discipline’s leading athletes.Australia’s Kiara Sioux-Lin Dean completed the podium with 22 hits. The young Australian impressed throughout the final, staying in medal contention before securing bronze ahead of her experienced teammate Penny Smith.

The Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), a member of Qatar Foundation, and the Young Entrepreneurs Club (YEC), which operates under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has launched the “QSTP x YEC Summer Bootcamp 2026”, a hands-on programme in technology and startup building designed to turn ideas into companies.The first session attracted 124 attendees from across Qatar, with 60% female participation, bringing together university students, fresh graduates, aspiring entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts.Running from July 27 to August 19, the bootcamp brings participants through 13 sessions covering every stage of building a company.Early sessions introduce participants to how the startup world works and help them reframe their thinking around real problems worth solving, before moving into business models and revenue, and a structured critique process that pushes participants to stress test their ideas.Later sessions cover how investors evaluate opportunities, the local deep tech landscape, and how to build ventures around measurable impact, followed by product development, go to market strategy, storytelling, and pitching in front of an audience.The programme closes with an introduction to what comes next through the QSTP's incubation offering, and a rehearsal presentation ahead of the Hackathon.Sessions are led by founders, investors, and industry experts from organisations including Alchemist Doha, TeKnowledge, QLUB, Ibtechar, and HostX, alongside the QSTP's own programme team.Participants will also take part in a QSTP ecosystem tour and a rehearsal Demo Day ahead of the programme's closing Hackathon, set for August 20-21, where teams will pitch their startup concepts to a live panel of judges.The closing keynote will focus on how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the way startups are built and scaled."Every year, the Summer Bootcamp shows us just how much talent is out there, waiting for the right platform,” said QSTP business development director Eng. Ahmed al-Said. “Our role is to equip these participants with the tools, mentorship, and access to Qatar's innovation ecosystem they need to turn a rough idea into something real.”“We look forward to seeing what this cohort builds over the next four weeks,” he added."This bootcamp reflects the Club's ongoing efforts to empower young people and equip them with the practical tools needed to transform innovative ideas into scalable and sustainable ventures,” said YEC vice-president Abdulrahman al-Emadi.“We are proud of our partnership with Qatar Science & Technology Park and of the support and collaboration of our partners in delivering an experience that combines knowledge, practical application, and direct engagement with industry experts,” he said. “Through this initiative, we aim to contribute to preparing a generation capable of leading the future of innovation and entrepreneurship in Qatar."Following the bootcamp, participants will be introduced to the QSTP Incubation Pathway, offering a clear route to continue developing their ventures beyond the programme.  

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) has announced its Summer Camp 2026, in partnership with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), running from August 2-13. The camp targets Qatari students aged 9-13, offering a programme that combines education, culture, physical activities, and leadership development. Qatari families are so keen on these summer programmes for their practical and entertaining schedules as well as it is an opportunity to build the characters of the youth and their love to the mother land. The camp will run daily from 9am-1:30pm and provides a comprehensive experience designed to develop participants’ skills and enhance their knowledge through a variety of educational and interactive activities. Registration is open for both boys’ and girls’ programmes. The programme combines learning within the museum with exploration of arts, sciences, and culture, alongside hands-on experiences that enrich children’s knowledge and broaden their horizons. The partnership with Lekhwiya also includes a range of sports activities, swimming, leadership programmes, and interactive challenges that foster teamwork, discipline, and self-confidence among participants. The camp also includes specialised educational workshops offered by the Qatar Science Club and the Qatar Calendar House, providing participants with the opportunity to explore diverse scientific and cultural fields through hands-on activities and innovative teaching methods. The programme includes an educational visit to the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, aiming to introduce children to the history of sports and inspire them with the values of excellence and achievement, within a comprehensive programme that combines knowledge, culture, and physical activity. The camp is organised as part of the Museum of Islamic Art’s efforts to offer high-quality summer programmes that contribute to enriching children’s summer break and developing their creative, intellectual, and physical abilities. This is achieved through national partnerships that foster integration between cultural, educational, and security institutions, providing a safe and stimulating learning environment that blends learning with recreation.
