* Barzan Gas Plant will produce and process natural gas from the North Field to serve the requirements of local power generation and water desalinisation

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani inaugurated the Barzan Gas Plant at a special ceremony held at Ras Laffan Industrial City Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani and HE the Speaker of Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, as well as a number of sheikhs, ministers and managers of companies participating in the project.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani affirmed that with the inauguration of the Barzan Gas Project at Ras Laffan Industrial City Tuesday, Qatar has taken important steps towards optimal utilisation of its vital resources in providing clean energy.
On his official Twitter account, His Highness said that by inaugurating the Barzan Gas Project, Qatar has taken important steps towards the optimal utilisation of its vital resources in providing clean energy, meeting local needs and supporting the country's major strategic projects and development plans based on the harmonisation between energy use and environmental preservation.


After the inauguration, His Highness the Amir toured the project facilities, during which he also witnessed a presentation explaining the project's role in achieving sustainable growth and meeting local gas supply needs. The ceremony included a documentary film about the project and stages of its completion, QNA reported.
The Barzan Gas Plant will produce and process natural gas from the North Field to serve the requirements of local power generation and water desalinisation.
It will also produce associated hydrocarbon products for supply to local refinery and petrochemical industries as well as for export to international markets.



The plant is named after the famed historic Barzan Towers, also known as the Umm Salal Mohammed Fort Towers, which were originally built in the late 19th century.
At the inauguration ceremony, HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, also the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, extended his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir for his unlimited guidance, and support to the energy sector.
He said, “This is one of the most important energy projects in the State of Qatar, which adds a high and qualitative value in the effort to meet our domestic natural gas needs, and in supporting Qatar’s comprehensive development and economic growth.”
HE al-Kaabi noted, “With the Barzan Plant’s various products, we have achieved our important objective of the optimal exploitation of our resources from the North Field, and provided the energy needed for electricity production and water desalination, in addition to the large development projects in the country, including the facilities for hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup and other strategic projects."
HE Minister al-Kaabi thanked the executive managements and teams of QatarEnergy, Qatargas and ExxonMobil for their valuable efforts towards delivering this project.
He also expressed pride in the efforts of all teams working on the project and added: “I would like to single out the Qatari youth and project managers and others who have exerted great efforts and gained the knowledge, experience, and skill to become the future leaders of the oil and gas sector.
“I also would like to thank all our fellow expatriates, to whom we express our appreciation and thanks for their tireless efforts in all our projects to develop the energy sector.”
