The prospects for the construction and realty sector appear to be brighter, especially outside the capital of Qatar, as there was strong year-on-year surge in the building permits issued in five municipalities in October 2021 compared with an overall decline at the national level, according to the official statistics.
The total number of building permits issued in the country this October saw a 6.3% decline year-on-year whereas Umm Slal recorded the highest growth of 42.9%, Al Khor (25%), Al Shahaniya (20%), Al Wakra (16.7%) and Al Shamal (14.3%). In the case of Al Daayen, Doha and Al Rayyan, there was a decrease of 28.7%, 22% and 13.8% respectively in the review period.
Qatar issued a total of 685 building permits in October 2021 with Al Rayyan, Al Wakra and Al Daayen municipalities together constituting as much as 65% of the total; said the figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).
On a monthly basis, there was a decrease of 7% in the building permits issued with Al Daayen registering 35% plunge, Al Shamal (33%), Doha (21%), Al Shahaniya (17%) and Al Rayyan (1%); while there was a 31% increase in the case of Al Wakra, 18% in Al Khor and 11% in Umm Slal.
The building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
In its latest data, the PSA reported that of the total number of new building permits issued in October, Al Rayyan constituted 25% or 169 permits, Al Wakra (24% or 161 permits), Al Daayen (16% or 112 permits), Doha (15% or 103 permits), Umm Slal (9% or 60 permits), Al Khor (6% or 40 permits), Al Shahaniya (4% or 24 permits) and Al Shamal (2% or 16 permits).
The PSA data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 51% (347 permits) of the total building permits issued in October 2021, additions 46% (315 permits) and fencing 3% (23 permits).
Of the new residential buildings permits, villas topped the list, accounting for 71% (177 permits) of the total, dwellings of housing loans 17% (43 permits) and apartments 11% (27 permits).
Among non-residential sector, commercial structures accounted for 71% or 68 permits, the industrial buildings as workshops and factories 14% (13 permits) and mosques 6% (six permits).
Qatar saw an overall 2% decline year-on-year in the total building completion certificates in October 2021 with Al Shamal registering a 66.7% plunge, Umm Slal (51.4%), 18.2% in Al Khor, 10.1% in Wakra and 2.2% in Al Rayyan; even as Doha and Al Daayen municipalities witnessed 35.1% and 23.5% growth respectively.
Qatar saw a total of 343 building completion certificates issued in October 2021, of which 205 or 60% was for the new buildings (residential and non-residential) and 138 or 40% for additions.
Of the total number of new building completion certificates issued in October 2021, Al Rayyan constituted 26% or 90 certificates, Doha (22% or 77), Al Wakra (21% or 71), Al Daayen (18% or 63), Umm Slal (5% or 18), Al Shahaniya (3% or 11), Al Khor (3% or nine) and Al Shamal (1% or four).
On a monthly basis, the total number of building completion certificates issued in the country fell 2% with Umm Slal registering 45% plunge, Al Rayyan (14%) and Al Wakra (9%); even as there was a 33% increase in the case of Al Shamal, 9% in Al Daayen, 22% in Al Shahaniya (47.1%), 18% in Doha and 13% in Al Khor in the review period.
Of the 174 residential buildings completion certificates issued, as many as 113 or 65% were for villas, 45 or 26% for dwellings of housing loans and 13 or 7% for the apartments.
Of the 113 villas completion certificates issued this October, as many as 29 were in Al Daayen, 27 in Al Rayyan, 21 in Wakra, 20 in Doha, seven in Umm Slal, four in Al Khor, three in Al Shamal and two in Al Shahaniya.
Of the 45 dwellings of housing loans completion certificates issued, Al Rayyan saw 22, Al Daayen (eight), Al Wakra (seven), Umm Slal (four), Al Khor (two) and Doha and Al Shahaniya (one each).
In the case of 13 apartments, Doha issued nine completion certificates, Al Daayen (two) and Al Wakra and Umm Slal (one each).
