The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has warned people about hacking attempts targeting WhatsApp users. "Beware of hacking attempts targeting WhatsApp users, and make sure to enable the two-step verification feature and not to share the verification code with anyone," the CRA tweeted Sunday.

Explaining how WhatsApp accounts had been hacked recently, the authority said: "The hacker enters your mobile number to create a new WhatsApp account, so you will receive an SMS message from WhatsApp with a 6-digit verification code. "The hacker tries to convince you in several ways to send him this code, and if he gets it, he will prevent you from having control of your account and will communicate with your contacts to defraud them by impersonating you."
