Plans are underway for the creation of an online portal that would provide embassies in Doha information on available business opportunities that could enhance bilateral ties with Qatar, an official of a Qatari company has said.
KON Group chairman Mohamed R Massani said the business portal, which will be available on the group’s website, will initially feature the United Republic of Tanzania. Details of the initiative were discussed with Tanzanian ambassador Fatma Mohamed Rajab in a recently-held meeting, Massani said.
“The first ‘KON Business Portal’ will showcase all business, investment, and tourism-related information on Tanzania. This platform will help enhance the bilateral business relations of the two countries,” he said.
Massani also discussed with Rajab the details of an awareness programme to orient Tanzanian nationals entering the country on information about the country’s rules and regulations, culture, labour laws and rights, healthcare, among other details about living in Qatar.
“This awareness programme will be the first to be implemented in Qatar by KON Group with its strategic partners in order to build a well-organised expat community strategy to help build a better environment.
“Every expat community’s plan will also be tailor-made to meet their needs while living in Qatar, and in the run-up to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Embassy of Republic of Tanzania to the State of Qatar will be the first to implement such programme,” Massani explained.
The collaboration with the Tanzanian embassy is part of KON Group’s ‘business diplomacy programme’, a partnership initiative with different embassies based in Qatar aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations with different countries.
According to Massani, KON Group is keen to participate in the country’s economic development by serving as a bridge between companies in Qatar and their counterparts worldwide.
Massani reiterated that the collaboration between the company and different embassies in the country would play a role in promoting trade and investments between Qatar and other countries.
In a recently-held virtual business forum, Rajab said the embassy recorded high demand for Tanzanian food commodities, such as coffee beans, cashews, spices, honey, meats, vegetables, avocados, mangoes, and other fruits in Qatar.
During the forum, which was held on the sidelines of the ‘5th Tanzania Industrial Products Exhibition’ hosted earlier this month by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), Rajab also discussed opportunities for Qatar investors in Tanzania’s gold and mining, real estate projects, pharmaceuticals, construction, Islamic banking, and hunting, among other sectors.
