Doha Festival City (DHFC) will hold this year’s Qatar National Day QND festivities from December 14 to 18, between 2pm and 10pm with a range of family-friendly activities.
Messages of gratitude will be placed throughout the mall. Shoppers will get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique festivities.
A giant declaration of love for Qatar will be displayed at the Atrium Node on the ground floor through a 3D ‘I Love Qatar’ interactive display, available for guests to take pictures.
Visitors to the mall are also invited to share their appreciation for Qatar by placing messages on the ‘Message Wall’, installed at the Market Corridor on the ground floor. To limit the touching of surfaces and provide a contactless and safe experience, DHFC will invite Qatar residents to share their congratulations messages and wishes on the mall’s website via the QR code.
The messages will then be printed and placed on the ‘Message Wall’. The submissions will be accepted until December 17.
DHFC will also feature an augmented reality ‘Selfie Mirror’, placed at the Centre Court on the first floor on December 14, 15, and 16.
The installation is composed of a photo booth with a sensor placed on top of the screen – guests who would like to take pictures will be invited to stand in front of the booth that will automatically snap their photos, with no touching involved and in line with the safety measures implemented by the mall.
Participants will also be offered the opportunity to try traditional Qatari attire for their photos and change the background virtually by waving with their hand from afar.
Guests’ photos will be shared with them via email, and the best picture will enjoy an iPhone12 prize from the mall, to be announced on the DHFC Instagram page on December 18.
DHFC will also distribute miniature Qatari National Flags to all visitors – flags can be collected at the mall’s entrances and customer service desks on the ground floor throughout the whole five days of festivities.
“We are delighted to celebrate QND with all our visitors, offering them the opportunity to experience the Qatari culture through our one-of-a-kind celebratory atmosphere. This is the perfect occasion to showcase our loyalty and gratitude to our home, Qatar, that has generously supported us for the past four years, and we look forward to welcoming shoppers to join the festivities we have planned at the Mall, whilst adhering to the safest measures to protect our community”, DHFC general manager Robert Hall said in a press statement.
The mall will be decorated with Qatar flags throughout the nodes, along with hanging banners and special lighting; guests will also enjoy special décor lighting and 3D animated projections on the mall’s entrance façade as well as Oryx shape installations.
All interactive gatherings, including the Message Wall and the Selfie Mirror, will be contactless and provide the safest experience to participants.
All customers will be required to show their green Ehteraz app at the entrance to the mall and activation areas, and to wear masks during their visit to DHFC, except while seating and dining. For dining, visitors will be allowed to sit in groups of no more than five, expect for families, at designated seating areas as per the Ministry of Public Health's current guidelines.
Social distancing stickers have been placed throughout the mall and activation areas. All staff and event organisers will be wearing masks and gloves.
Sanitisation of all activation areas will be completed after each use, and no more than 100 people will be allowed in the areas at a time. Parents or guardians must always accompany children.
DHFC opening hours are Saturday to Wednesday from 10am to 10 pm, and Thursday to Friday from 10am to 11pm. Children of all ages are now allowed to enter the mall.
In line with the preventative measures set out by the authorities, DHFC has introduced stringent health and safety measures. This includes a thorough mall disinfection treatment on a weekly basis, robust cleaning, sanitisation operations during mall trading hours, and 127 hand sanitising stations installed in the areas that have commonly touched surfaces.
