The Ministry of Municipality, represented by Al-Khor and Al-Thakhira Municipality, marked Qatar Environment Day on Monday through planting a number of Sidr trees in one of the parks of Al-Khor city, in the presence of municipal leaders and residents of Al-Khor.
Eng. Abdulla Ibrahim Al-Sada – General Director of Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality, said in press statements on the sidelines of the celebration that the Ministry of Municipality, represented by Al-Khor and Al-Thakhira Municipality, marked Qatar Environment Day on Monday by planting a number of Sidr trees in one of the city's parks, in the presence of department managers and section heads at the municipality, representatives from Map of Al-Khor Hospital, schools, and a number of city residents.
He explained that there is significant municipal interest in environmental issues and park creation. Recently, expansions of several public parks in the municipality have been completed, including Al Shu'aa Park, doubling its area, and electricity has been connected to illuminate it with electric lamps instead of relying on solar energy for lighting, as was the case before. In addition, the opening of a bicycle park will take place soon.
He also revealed that work is currently underway through the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to expedite the completion of Al-Thakira Park, which covers an area of about 4,000 square meters, expected to be completed by the end of this year.
He pointed out that Al-Khor Municipality has witnessed the completion of many projects recently, including the opening of the fish market, and currently, expansion work is underway for the slaughterhouse.
He further stated that there are other projects to be implemented in the coming period, including parking lots for trailers and a fenced area for abandoned cars collected in the industrial area of Al-Khor.
He noted that Al-Khor city attracts large numbers of GCC tourists, especially from Saudi Arabia, during the winter season, especially families, due to its sea view and beautiful atmosphere.
Further, Hamad al-Muraikhi, Director of Service Affairs Department at Al-Khor and Al-Thakira Municipality, stressed that the municipality has made great strides in environmental conservation, preserving trees, and wild environmental plants within the municipality, noting that the state, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, is making great efforts to conserve the environment.
He confirmed that there is continuous cooperation between Al-Khor and Al-Thakhira Municipality and Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme, where the programme collaborated with the municipality in creating several parks there throughout the past period, in addition to maintaining them.
Meanwhile, Khalid Al-Nuaimi, Head of the Parks Section at Al-Khor and Al-Thakhira Municipality, pointed out that there is great and continuous interest from the municipality in parks and environmental conservation, noting that during the celebration of the Ministry of Municipality, represented by Al-Khor and Al-Thakhira Municipality on Monday , Qatar Environment Day was marked by planting a number of Sidr trees at the Police Plaza Park.
