Markets across the globe are expected to witness growth in the number of electric vehicles, an official of a Doha-based automobile dealership has said.

Al Boraq Automobiles chairman and CEO Salman Jassim al-Darwish said the company plans to start launching its electric cars from Porsche “by the end of December or in the beginning of January 2021.”

Following the launch, al-Darwish said Porsche would be receiving around “50 cars per year.”

“But in the coming years, markets will be having electric cars from all manufacturers; and that is the future,” noted al-Darwish during a recently-held press conference, which announced Qetaifan Project’s sales launch for the second phase of residential villa plots.

On the sidelines of the launch, al-Darwish signed a memorandum of understanding with Qetaifan Projects managing director Sheikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani, who is also vice chairman of Katara Hospitality, for the supply and construction of electric charging stations for electric cars on Qetaifan Island North.

During the press conference, Sheikh Nasser said: “Our partnership with Porsche is part of efforts to bring the future into the island. We are thinking of becoming the one of the catalysts and one of the starting points of launching charger pods in our operating assets as the first phase, and then spreading it around the island to make it a location that caters and encourages people to use these electric vehicles.”

A showroom, which will be located in the beach club on the island, will focus on the benefits of using electric cars and their benefits to the environment. This comes in line with the state’s drive to increase long-term sustainability projects, hence Qetaifan Projects added a new global brand to its partners’ portfolio, the company said in an earlier statement.

According to al-Darwish, Porsche Centre Doha’s collaboration with Qetaifan Projects “shares Porsche’s drive to provide an exclusive and unique product abiding to quality standards, in addition to supporting the state’s policy in promoting sustainability.”

He also noted that Porsche Centre Doha continues to enhance the Porsche E-Performance range of products, especially with the launch of the Taycan, the first fully-electric sports saloon from Porsche.

Al-Darwish added: “The selection of Porsche charging stations’ locations is a very careful process, and we are pleased that Qetaifan Island North will be the promising destination for exclusive family entertainment from our partners.

“The Taycan can cover up to 463km after a single charge, so it often doesn’t need to be charged on the go. But we want to give our customers peace of mind by expanding our network of charging stations in the country.”
