* Boost to retail sector as demand soars for camping equipment

The camping season is expected to promote and further boost domestic tourism this year as many residents have started going for outdoor activities.
A large number of families are already spending their weekends on beaches while others prefer to have picnics with relatives, friends and colleagues in different areas that provide ample open spaces.
This much-anticipated and awaited period of the year entices many people to visit destinations such as Sealine, Al Wakra (family beach), Dukhan beach, Al Khor, Khor Al Udaid, Al Thakira and Al Ruwais, among others.
“We enjoy spending the night on the beach during this time of the year, have a barbecue with friends at night. We also love camel rides during the day,” said Filipino expatriate Arlene N, who purchased a new and bigger tent from a hypermarket recently.

She added that they also plan to camp and visit other destinations in Qatar during her 30-day vacation, which she often spends back home every year.
“This will be the best time to explore the different destinations, which I haven’t visited in my 11 years as a resident here. From Doha, I will go up north in Al Ruwais and then west. I hope to have a good experience of the beaches there as well,” Arlene said.
Besides domestic tourism, it is learnt that this season also helps boost the country’s retail sector. Dedicated sections for camping equipment and accessories at major hypermarkets in Qatar have become prominent once again.
These sections display a wide range of items, including tents of varying sizes, designs and prices, cooler boxes, beach chairs, sleeping bags and mattresses, barbecue grills and charcoal, portable stoves, butane gas and other accessories, and continue to attract an increasing number of customers.
LuLu Group International regional manager Shanavas P M told Gulf Times that there is a huge demand for these items at all LuLu stores across the country during this period.
“Residents, especially families and children, seem to be very excited to have picnics at public parks while others love to go to the beaches. So, we want to ensure that all they need for these activities are available,” he said.
LuLu is also set to launch a promotional campaign for camping and outdoor equipment, offering discounts up to 25% from November 8, according to Shavanas PM.
The recently held S'hail - Katara International Hunting and Falcons Exhibition, held in conjunction with the start of this year's camping season, gave falconers a chance to get the products and supplies they need.
Many reputable companies at the event showcased a wide range of items for hunting, falconry and adventure activities.
