* Students will have opportunity to join labour market right after they graduate

The number of students who have applied for Qatar Technical Secondary School for Girls has exceeded the 90-student capacity specified for the first academic year, according to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE).

In a statement issued by the MoEHE, principal of the school Naima al-Noby said the administrative and academic staff are proud of the opening of the first technical school for girls in Qatar.

This is happening amid the growing importance of technical and vocational education as a key driver of economic growth and comprehensive development.

She stressed that all parties concerned worked together to finalise the procedures of opening the new school in line with the operational plan. Online enrolment started on August 16, and continues until September 3.

Talking about the enrolment rate, al-Noby said the number of students applying for the school exceeded the 90-student capacity specified for the first academic year. All students will have to attend an interview and assessment test prior to acceptance.

She stressed that all precautionary measures will be been taken during the interviews to ensure the health and safety of students. An organising committee will be receiving parents and students to check the status on the Ehteraz app, measure their temperature and direct them to the designated venue for interviews and assessment tests.

In addition, the school technical staff will undergo training by an Australian institution early next month. This will qualify them to deliver theoretical and practical lessons as part of the technical subjects in each discipline.

On a daily basis, the school management answers questions from parents and students regarding the technical majors, curriculum and future opportunities.

Talking about certificates, she noted that girls specialising in the Laboratory Technician and Electronics & Communications courses will earn Australia's International TAFE Certificate II in addition to the high school certificate.

Students will have the opportunity to join the labour market right after they graduate. For example, girls specialising in the Laboratory Technician course can work in the energy, industry, environment, health, civil and military sectors, among others.

Graduates of the Electronics and Communications discipline can seek jobs in a variety of relevant sectors and organisations, including factories and companies.

Girls majoring in Information Technology will earn the Microsoft Office applications specialist certification and the Microsoft Technology Associate certification, along with the high school certificate.

Upon graduation, they can pursue their careers in various IT fields. They can also continue their studies in technical colleges, including College of the North Atlantic - Qatar and Community College of Qatar.

"In conclusion, we look forward to receiving the first cohort of students at Qatar Technical Secondary School for Girls. Through highly qualified teachers and world-class laboratories, they will have exceptional opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in their respective areas of study," the statement adds.
