The Bedaya Centre for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Centre), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, resumed its activities for July by launching the ‘2020 Summer Camp’ for participants aged between 16 and 20 years old from July 12 to 23.
The virtual summer camp was aligned with the current circumstances to explore proper educational environment for students during the summer period through the optimal use of advanced technologies.
The innovative approach adopted by Bedaya aimed to hone the skills of participants and raise awareness about entrepreneurship through educational activities and workshops with the ability to communicate with new friends online at home through a high-quality remote training platform to enhance their capabilities.
Due to the current circumstances represented by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s edition of Bedaya’s Summer Camp used Zoom video communications platform enabling all participants to take part in the camp and connect remotely while staying safe at home, with the centers specialised advisors and coaches.
Moreover, special kits were shared with all participants, including all the required tools and gadgets in the diverse interactive workshops and online sessions that was conducted during the camp period, such as the clay session, plant care workshop, canvas painting, cooking, and embroidery.
In addition, the camp also included a variety of workshops that sought to develop participants' business skills and enhance their desire and ambition to launch their startups in the future, such as the ‘How to be a Technology Entrepreneur’ workshop, ‘How to Start a Fashion Project’ workshop, and the ‘Creative Thinking’ workshop.
After completing the camp, certificates were awarded to the best participants based on attendance, degree of creativity, and project quality.
Abdulla Faleh al-Saeed, board member and acting general manager of Bedaya Centre, said: “We are always keen on supporting our youth by helping them to develop their knowledge, skills, and experience in relation to entrepreneurship, which encourages them to develop bold and courageous ideas and think about proceeding with their own projects that qualify them to start their practical life successfully.
“Through this camp we aimed to stimulate their capabilities and raise the level of awareness and reduce the gap between them and the actual market, so that they are prepared to realise their dreams and aspirations, which will eventually support the SME sector which is considered an essential tributary in the economic cycle of the country.”
He added: “In line with the endeavours of the State of Qatar and the instructions of the Qatar Ministry of Public Health to take all necessary preventive and precautionary measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 and its implications, the 2020 Summer Camp was held this year using modern and advanced technologies, such as Zoom video communications platform to ensure the provision of a flexible interactive environment to overcome the barrier of time and space and most importantly keeping the safety of all participants in mind.”
