Many hotels in Doha continue to provide Qatar residents with a unique Iftar or Suhoor experience this Ramadan at the comfort of their homes amid the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Curated Ramadan menus range from traditional local and Arabic cuisines to authentic international offerings, along with an array of sweets and other delicacies for dessert.
All Katara Hospitality properties are offering special Ramadan experience due to the current situation. Four of its key hotels in Qatar – Sharq Village & Spa, The Ritz-Carlton Doha, Al Messila Resort & Spa and Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel – launch on Tuesday (April 28) ‘Ramadan Weyakum’ (meaning ‘Ramadan with you’), a unique Iftar and Suhoor menu for home delivery to mark “a true spirit of unity and sharing this Ramadan.”
Expert chefs used traditional recipes from four of the most iconic restaurants, featuring B-Lounge’s chicken salad, Veritas’ lasagna bolognese, Parisa's chelo kabab e Koobide and Al Hubara’s famous Um Ali.
“The holy month of Ramadan is a much-revered tradition with age-old customs that resonate deeply. Sharq Village & Spa has over the years cultivated this heritage and sought to revive fond memories and spread goodwill,” Ziad Mallah, hotel manager at Sharq Village & Spa, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Doha, said in a statement.
He noted that they join hands with three other hotels in these unprecedented times to craft new traditions with “the four culinary maestros from four of the most beloved restaurants in Doha, creating memorable Iftars and Suhoors, delivered to the doorstep of our valued guests.” “Ramadan Weyakum’ gives a new meaning to this celebration.”
The Ritz-Carlton, Doha general manager Christian Sack said: “We are honoured to collaborate to create a memorable experience ‘Ramadan Weyakum’ which provide you, a safe and intimate celebration with your family in the comfort of your home.”
“Indulge yourself through an authentic culinary journey with international flavours prepared by our culinary team to celebrate the spirit of the season”, he said.
Al Messila Resort & Spa general manager Patrizia Hofer said such “beautiful initiative allows us to enliven our Epicurean excellence associated with Michelin-starred Executive Chef Pino Lavarra while combining a signature menu together with our sister properties.”
Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel general manager Belal al-Kadry said: “As Sheraton Grand Doha is Qatar’s iconic hotel and the most recognisable social landmark in the country, we always seek to incorporate the heritage and local element into the experiences we put forth for our guests.”
“We always say, ‘our heritage is your heritage.’ We aim to make the essence of the Holy Month come alive in parallel with Al Messila Resort & Spa, Sharq Village & Spa, and Ritz-Carlton. Every single detail has been designed to make the Ramadan experience with us more memorable considering the unprecedented times; Ramadan Weyakum has been created in the spirit of solidarity and we hope that our guests enjoy their much-loved signature menu items from B-lounge, Al Hubara, Veritas and Parisa,” he said.
Ramadan Weyakum Iftar and Suhoor menus are priced starting from QR400 per two persons and can be ordered with a four-hour notice.
Mondrian Doha, managed by leading international lifestyle hospitality group, sbe, is offering its crème de la crème outlets from some of the world’s top Michelin-starred chefs.
Walima, a unique Arabic Qatari restaurant at Mondrian, delivers Ramadan boxes (available between 5pm and 1am): chicken biryani for QR125, lamb machboos for QR150, mixed grill for QR150, and family servings (six people) of its lamb leg Ouzi for QR1,500. All boxes come with a variety of juices, appetisers, main course and dessert.
“We are happy to be able to take our unique culinary experience beyond our property and directly to the people of Qatar. With a culinary emporium encompassing seven restaurants, which includes CUT by Wolfgang Puck, Morimoto, EllaMia and a number of other ‘first to market’ concepts including Walima, a Qatari-inspired restaurant, we hope to bring joy and delight to the people of Doha during Ramadan,” sbe Group’s Middle East & Europe COO Chadi Farhat said.
Residents can also enjoy Morimoto Doha’s fusion of Japanese and Western styles of cuisine, delivered throughout Ramadan from 12 noon to 11pm.
Other offerings include craft burgers, chicken wings and spicy cheese fries by Hudson Tavern, and cakes, sweets, macarons and chocolates by EllaMia – open for delivery between 12noon and 11pm.
Marsa Malaz Kempinski at The Pearl-Qatar prepares five-star Iftar and Suhoor set menus throughout Ramadan, pairing Qatari and Middle Eastern specialties, ranging from traditional beverages, cold and hot mezze, fish, grilled meat and ouzi to freshly prepared traditional sweet delicacies such as sweet honey, rosewater, coconut syrups, pistachio flavoured creams and date pudding.
The hotel’s Iftar set menu starts from QR180; Suhoor set menu from QR190, Arabic sweets from QR90 per kg, and Hampers from QR800.
Pearl and Marsa Malaz Hampers cost QR800, which include assorted baklava and macarons, apricot jam, mixed nuts and dried fruits, jallab date, honey, Majdool dates, Turkish delights, zaatar and rose water.
Pearl Deluxe and Marsa Malaz Deluxe Hampers cost QR1,500, which include assorted baklava and macarons, apricot jam, mixed nuts and dried fruits, jallab date, honey, Majdool dates, Turkish delights, zaatar, rose water, pomegranate molasses, sparkling date juice and chocolate almonds.
“Marsa Malaz Kempinski team would like to deliver the joyous spirit of Ramadan and allow you to celebrate this special month’s traditions through authentic delights, carefully crafted by our culinary experts, in the comfort of your homes,” the hotel said in an email to its guests.
“From Iftar and Suhoor set menus and traditional Arabic sweets to crafted gift hampers, our hospitality and extensive culinary experience will ensure your Ramadan is a memorable one,” the hotel added.
Dusit Doha Hotel is offering authentic Thai gastronomy with Benjarong’s special delivery menu. The hotel’s Iftar and Suhoor special menu features Tom Yum Goong (prawn in spicy soup), Gaeng Kiew Wan Gai Yang Krueng Gaeng (green curry with grill marinated chicken), and Phad Thai Goong Benjarong (stir-fried Chantaburi rice noodle with prawn), among others.
Free delivery (from 12 noon to 1am) for orders above QR250 and orders must be placed minimum two hrs in advance.
Arabic and International delicacies special menu include Tomato Qalayah Bill Laham, Butter Chicken, Iranian Shrimp Stew, Eggplant Mushka, and more. Family boxes are pegged at QR600 for four people and QR900 for six people.
