Top officials and representatives of different committees at Qatar Chamber have lauded the government’s assurance of continuous economic activity and strategic stocks during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani has praised the efforts of the government in trying to arrest the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19), even as he encouraged citizens and residents to comply health and safety regulations to ensure the success of these initiatives.
In the April 2020 issue of Al Moltaqa, the chamber’s monthly economic magazine, Sheikh Khalifa was quoted as saying that the virus’s impact on the global economy “constitutes a real test for all of us” and that “it is important to deal with the crisis without intimidation or underestimation.”
Qatar Chamber second vice chairman Rashid bin Hamad al-Athba stated that “the State’s strategic reserve of essential items is sufficient for long periods.”
The private sector is “fully-prepared” to perform its role in supplying different products and goods “in sufficient quantities,” al-Athba emphasised.
Since Qatar rolled out precautionary measures related to the pandemic, Qatar Chamber immediately initiated a series of programmes through the conduct of regular meetings among its committees and sub-committees, as well as with different government institutions.
On the sidelines of a meeting, Qatar Chamber board member Mohamed bin Ahmed al-Obaidli, who is also chairman of the Food Security and Environment Committee, stressed that the economic blockade helped government authorities to prepare for different types of crises.
“The private sector is ready to streamline and ensure that the necessary goods reach consumers, thanks to the experience the government gained from the siege,” al-Obaildi pointed out.
Speaking to the media, Qatar Chamber board member and chairperson of the Health Committee, Ibtihaj al-Ahmadani, said the private medical sector plays a key role in fighting the spread of the coronavirus by enhancing partnerships and strong co-operation with the government, in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Public Health.
The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (Qicca) board member for International Relations Sheikh Dr Thani bin Ali al-Thani said the concept of community responsibility “is a well-established concept” and based on Islam, values, and society.
“It has become one of the most important factors used to measure the performance and contributions of companies and institutions in the society. It has also become one
of the criteria for measuring the extent to which businesses respect their societal responsibilities and perform their moral duties to achieve well-being and development,” Sheikh Thani said.
According to Qatar Chamber director general Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi, the chamber is currently preparing an overall plan for a “complete electronic transformation” and to provide all of the chamber’s services online.
“This enables businessmen to accomplish their transactions from office without the need to visit the chamber's venue, which will save time and effort, and will cater to their needs,” al-Sharqi said.
