QGBC honours 29 organisations with sustainability awards

The Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation, has awarded 29 organisations in the country that have promoted sustainability in their projects and programmes.
The winners were announced at a special event held recently in the presence of a large number of dignitaries and special invitees. The awards recognise the efforts, commitment, and contributions of individuals, institutions and organisations in furthering sustainable development and environmental protection in Qatar and the region.
Speaking at the event, Meshal al-Shamari, director, QGBC, said: “Qatar Sustainability Awards is the culmination of the year-round efforts of a growing base of stakeholders and participants from both the public and private sectors, and reflects the diversity of initiatives and achievements of an environmentally conscious community. The awards are about recognising their efforts in achieving sustainable development in Qatar.”
The awards, now in their fourth edition honoured winners in 29 categories for their sustainable and innovative efforts and practices. They highlight innovation and best practices in green buildings, green hospitality, green events, green corporate, green service providers, sustainability initiatives, and building products and technologies. The Qatar Sustainability Awards 2020 entries were reviewed and scored by an expert jury, including senior sustainability and green building experts, professional practitioners, and academic researchers.

2.Qatar University’s Early Childhood and Teacher Training Center won the Green Education Building award.

3.Polypipe won the Green Building Product award.

4.Jotun won the Green Building Product award.

5.Msheireb Properties Headquarters won the Green Office Building award.

6.Hamad Bin Khalifa University won the Green Research award.

7.Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel won the Green Hotel award.

8.QF Hospitality Services won the Green Catering award.

9.GEMS American Academy Qatar won the School Sustainability Initiative award.

10.Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Maker Majlis, won the University Sustainability Initiative award.

11.ConocoPhillips Global Water Sustainability Center won the Oil & Gas Sustainability Initiative award.

12.Alfardan Properties’ Burj Alfardan won the Green Commercial Building award.

13.ECO | SOUK won the SME Sustainability Initiative award.

14.SNC Lavalin won the Green Facility Management Provider award.

15.The Ministry of Culture and Sports’ Duhail Sports Hall won the Green Sports Facility award.

16.Consolidated Contractors Company won the Green Contractor award.

17. Kahramma/Shell/Gasal’s Rlic Power Synergy Project won the Corporate Sustainability Initiative award.

18.Qatar Green Leaders won the Green Consultant award.

19.Fashion Swap won the Green Community Event award.

20.The Big 5 Construct Qatar 2019 won the Green Corporate Event award.

21.ConocoPhillips Global Water Sustainability Center won the Tadmur Special Award.

22.Qatar Post won the Green Corporate award.

23.Super Heroes Eat Plants won the Green Startup award.

24.Qatar Museums & KEO International Consultants’ Fire Station - Artist in Residence won the Green Cultural Building award.

25.Ashghal won the Government Sustainability Initiative award.

26.Doha Environmental Actions Project (DEAP) won the NGO Sustainability Initiative award.

27.Greener Future won the NGO Sustainability Initiative award.

28.The Ministry of Public Health won the QGBC Special Award.

29.The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Sustainability Strategy won the QGBC Special award
