HEC Paris in Qatar has set the focus on realising the twin objectives of ‘Impact’ and ‘Excellence’ for the next 10 years as it has completed the first decade in Qatar.
“Our plans for the second decade in Qatar will be to expand on our successes and improve what can be improved: excellence is a process, not a destination,” Dr Pablo Martin De Holan, dean of HEC Paris in Qatar told Gulf Times.
“Going forward we will continue to support impactful learning in both the public and private sectors and build upon the solid foundations we have laid as a world leader in executive education,” he said.
According to Dr De Holan, the last decade was quite an eventful one for the organisation. “We became part of the Qatar Foundation family in 2010 with the objective of bringing world-class executive education programmes and research activity to Qatar and the region, and I believe we have been quite successful in our mission in that regard,” he said.
“We will continue our work with the business community to make the next decade even more successful with a strong focus on entrepreneurship, women-in-leadership, and innovation, all with the goal of creating and disseminating actionable knowledge, that is, knowledge that helps policy makers and managers make better decisions,” he explained. The dean maintained that one of the major objectives of HEC Paris courses is to help Qatar achieve its goals with regard to Qatar National Vision 2030.
“A significant part of HEC Paris’ role and mission is to help transform this country into a knowledge-based economy by unlocking its great human potential and of course to nurture Qatar’s future leaders for the complex and changing times, we are all facing.
In that spirit, I want to emphasise the importance of women leadership and other initiatives that allow women to reach their potential and have successful careers,” he continued.
Dr De Holan also told that the university is working on several new initiatives. “We are working very hard on Big Data and Analytics as a driver of public policy, on women leadership and women entrepreneurship and on more industry specific areas such as sports management, hospitality and tourism, family business among other areas where we feel we can add value and bring training needed for the realisation of the National Vision 2030,” he highlighted.
HEC Paris in Qatar offers two degree programmes: International Executive MBA and Specialised Master in Strategic Business Unit Management.
A total of 836 alumni, including 42% females, have graduated from HEC Paris in Qatar in the last decade in these two programmes and 68% of them are Qataris.
“We would like to increase the number of female students as we believe that women and female leadership will have a significant impact in the world in the next few decades.
In addition, HEC Paris in Qatar has delivered custom-designed programmes for the executives and future leaders of almost 100 organisations in Qatar and the region, companies that wanted to help develop and deploy the talent of their managers,” added the dean.
