A large number of commuters have lauded Doha Metro for continuously increasing its metrolink routes as it provides easy access to and from stations.

Doha Metro now has a total of 35 routes at various stations, including the newly added route (M132) from the Al Wakrah Station to Al Janoub Stadium and Al Wukair South on the Red Line.

“Instead of relying on taxis, now I and my colleagues just have to walk a few metres from our place to the pick-up point, it is so convenient” long-time Indian expatriate Phuneet, who lives a few blocks from The Mall, told Gulf Times.

He takes the M121 route, which travels between Al Matar Al Qadeem Station (Family Food Centre at Old Airport Road) and The Mall, and passes through a number of streets (Al Salah, Al Mansour, and Tihama) in the area.

Two other routes in the Al Matar Al Qadeem network, M120 and M122, have also been benefiting many residents in the area, especially those at Al Hilal and Nuaija. It now has a total of six routes.

Meanwhile, the M132 route is expected to provide hassle-free rides to people going to a number of destinations such as the Al Wakra Preparatory School for Girls, Al Wakra Hospital and Ezdan Village in Al Wukair.

Besides going to work, many Doha residents said they save a lot of money from using the metrolink service, which is free of charge.

“I and some of my friends ride a metrolink van going to the Al Matar Al Qadeem station and then ride the metro, and the good thing is there are also vans/buses waiting at the Free Zone station, which takes us for example at the religious complex,” said Joan A, a Filipino expatriate.

Metrolink is a feeder bus network providing first and last mile connectivity to Qatar Rail customers within 2 to 5km radius of Doha Metro stations.

Qatar Rail is also encouraging Metro passengers to visit its website or download its mobile application to see the associated metrolink routes and stops. It operates between Saturday and Wednesday (6am to 11pm), Thursday (6am to 11.59pm), and Friday (2pm and 11.59pm).

Qatar Rail noted that its customer service centre (call 105) is ready to answer any questions about metrolink routes and timetables.

Trial ride-sharing service

Doha Metro is also offering a free trial ride-sharing service called “metroexpress”, which currently covers the West Bay QIC and DECC station areas (Onaiza 63).

Metroexpress uses a fleet of branded Mercedes Vito vans, seating 7 people per vehicle. The free trial ride-sharing service provides a quick and convenient access to DECC and West Bay QIC metro stations from dedicated pick-up/drop-off points only. The service can be booked through its designated app.

Metroexpress is provided strictly for Doha Metro customers registered with Qatar Rail and is to be used only in conjunction with a metro journey.
