Aster DM Healthcare Group, which has a substantial presence in Qatar, is set for expanding its services by opening new hospitals and other healthcare centres in India and the GCC region.
“Aster DM Healthcare Group currently operates a total of 374 healthcare facilities across eight countries with 25 hospitals, 111 clinics, 238 pharmacies. We are planning to expand with more facilities in India as well as in other countries,” Dr Harish Pillai, CEO, Aster India told Gulf Times at a recent media visit to India.
“The new hospitals that are coming up in India are, Aster Whitefield - Bengaluru (350 beds), Aster KLE Hospital - Bengaluru (600 beds), Aster Hospital - Chennai (500 beds) and Aster Capital, Thiruvananthapuram (750 beds). We have also got expansion plans for Aster Aadhar Hospital, Kolhapur with an additional 60 beds,” explained Dr Pillai.
According to the official, Aster has started, Aster Innovations and Research Centre in GCC region and India. The group also plans to begin diagnostic services in India with a ‘Referral Lab’ to be set up in Bengaluru. In the first phase, 40 diagnostic centres will be started in Karnataka and Kerala. Aster is also planning to come with more facilities in the GCC countries as well as expansion of the existing facilities.
Meanwhile, there are also plans to expand the facilities of the group’s flagship project, Aster Medcity in Kochi, Kerala.
Set in a 40-acre waterfront campus in Kochi, Kerala, Aster Medcity is a 670-bed JCI (Joint Commission International) NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers, India) accredited Quaternary care facility with one Multi-specialty Hospital and ten dedicated Centres of Excellence.

Presently, it has ten dedicated Centres of Excellence: Cardiac Sciences, Neurosciences, Orthopaedics & Rheumatology, Nephrology & Urology, Oncology, Women’s Health, Child & Adolescent Health, Gastroenterology & Integrated Liver Care, Multi-Organ Transplant and Minimal Access Robotic Surgery.

Aster Volunteers, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of the group, has been in the forefront offering financial aid, community empowerment and providing initiatives in developing skills through training for the weaker sections of the society. It provides financial assistance and subsidised treatment for the economically weaker sections of the society as well as facilities for bank loans without interest.
As part of its CSR activities, Aster has been helping the people who were affected by a devastating flood in 2018 in Kerala by constructing 250 houses. Over 100 of such houses have been constructed and handed over and the rest are getting completed.
