With the opening of the Doha Metro Green Line and a dedicated terminal at Qatar National Library, there is already an increase in the number of visitors to the library in the last three weeks.
“It has become very convenient for me to reach the library now," a Qatar resident, who used to visit the library only once or twice a month earlier told Gulf Times.
"Now, I make it a practice to go to the library whenever, I am free. The metro service has made my task easier and in the last two weeks I had been to the library three times,” he said.
Speaking to Gulf Times, a library official noted that the place is experiencing higher number of visitors after the opening of the Green Line.

"We are pleased that the public can now use the Doha Metro Green Line to easily reach us from all the major urban areas in the country. We are already seeing a noticeable increase in the number of visitors throughout the day and along with that, more diversity in our patrons than before,” said, Abeer al-Kuwari, director, Research and Learning Services at Qatar National Library.
“More families are among the many first-time visitors discovering our resources and joining our regular members at our free-to-attend programme of events. Lectures, educational and cultural programmes, music concerts and other special events take place several mornings a week, as well as in the afternoons and early evenings,” explained the official.
Many regular visitors to the library noted that the metro service has reduced their strain on reaching the library from far away places.

“The metro service to the library is the best thing that has happened to me in the recent times. Now I can leave my vehicle home and avoid the hassle of negotiating through the traffic as well as looking for suitable parking. This will help me visit the place more frequently than before,” noted, another patron of the library.
Others also voiced similar opinion and said that the mobility through the Education City will be enhanced with the recent addition of the Education City Tram service.
“When the tram service is fully operational, it will help people reach different locations of the Education City easier and more convenient. This will also have a positive impact on the environment with reduction in carbon footprint leading to Qatar’s efforts in achieving sustainable development,” described another resident.
The Education City Tram, which started operations last week, will be covering all the major locations in the Education City in the coming months.
“We are delighted that with the enhanced mobility, our library services and physical collections are even more readily available and accessible to a wider audience. We would love to encourage more people to take full advantage of the ease and convenience of the metro to reach us,” added al-Kuwari.
