Doha Metro has added three new metrolink routes to its network for Al Matar Al Qadeem station on the Red Line, giving Qatar residents and visitors hassle-free rides and more options to get to and from metro stations.
The M120 route (to Al Hilal South and Nuaija), travels between Doha Rocks and Al Nuaija St, with pick up and drop off points at Al Safeer Centre, Abdul Qadir Al Jaziri St, UPS, Aster Medical Centre, Woqod, Al Emadi Hospital and passing along Alfardan Gardens.
Marked as M121, this route travels between Al Matar Al Qadeem Station (Family Food Centre at Old Airport Road) and The Mall, and passes along Al Salah, Al Mansour, and Tihama streets.
Pick up and drop off points include QIB, Lulu Hypermarket (D Ring Road), Aster Hospital, Hassan Bin Thabit Ind’t School, Alhammad International School, Spring Field Kindergarten, and Qatar Charity.
The third route, M122, travels between Family Food Centre and Jaber Bin Hayyan St, with pick up and drop off points at Hassan Bin Thabit Independent School, Airport Health Centre, Al Karama, Al Mutasim, and Tadmur streets.
All three routes under the Al Matar Al Qadeem station (along Old Airport Road) have a frequency of 12 minutes.
It is learnt that these metrolink services will benefit a large number of commuters who have no cars or had been previously spending more on other forms of transportation.
Many car owners also prefer to take these feeder buses/vans saying it saves them time and money, and the hassle of looking for parking slots.
Qatar residents and visitors hope that more routes will be introduced in the future to cover more areas under the Red, Gold, and Green Lines.
Metrolink is a feeder bus network providing first and last mile connectivity to Qatar Rail customers within 2 to 5km radius of Doha Metro stations.
Metro passengers also benefit from Qatar Rail’s Metroexpress service operating at West Bay, which covers West Bay QIC and DECC station areas.
According to Qatar Rail, a fleet of metrolink-branded buses and vans operate on 12 Red Line, two Green Line, and four Gold Line stations. Fare is free and they operate between Saturday and Thursday, from 6am to 11pm; and on Friday, from 2pm to 11pm.
