The stage is set for the much-anticipated 24th Arabian Gulf Cup semi-final between Qatar and Saudi Arabia at Al Janoub Stadium this evening.
As a large number of people are expected to attend the match, various agencies concerned have taken the necessary measures to ensure that spectators have a smooth experience as they head to - and from - the stadium in Al Wakrah.
In a post on Twitter on Wednesday, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said the Roads Operation and Maintenance team has cleaned more than 50km of roads surrounding and leading to Al Janoub Stadium.
Also, to guide Gulf Cup fans to the stadium's parking facilities for the semi-final and ensure smooth traffic flow on the surrounding roads, Ashghal has installed about 190 temporary directional signs and 11 mobile electronic signs in "record time", according to another tweet.
Meanwhile, Qatar Rail advised people to "avoid the rush" on Thursday. For fans attending the Qatar vs Saudi Arabia match, the shuttle bus service to Al Janoub Stadium will begin at 3pm from the Al Wakra station of Doha Metro, Qatar Rail informed in a tweet.
It also reminded people that Gulf Cup ticket-holders can pick up their complimentary Day Pass "at any time on match days and travel all day with it".
Qatar Rail also said the Metrolink feeder bus service at Al Wakra station will operate from Ras Bu Fontas station on Thursday due to the Gulf Cup match at Al Janoub Stadium. Parking restrictions will also be in place (see map). "Parking at Al Wakra station will be moved to a nearby area," it tweeted.
In another tweet, Qatar Rail said one in every three people who attended Qatar's match against the UAE at Khalifa International Stadium on December 2 used the Doha Metro.
Qatar Rail saw a huge rush of passengers on that day, as "95,000 journeys were made using the Doha Metro".
As for the weather forecast, the Qatar Met department has said moderate daytime temperature is expected on Thursday along with some clouds, and it will be relatively cold by night.
The temperature will range from 19C to 27C in Doha and from 17C to 26C in Al Wakrah on Thursday.
The other semi-final will be played between Iraq and Bahrain at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium (Duhail) today.
