Thousands of shoppers thronged various malls Friday for Qatar’s Friday mega-sale to take advantage of the huge promotions and discounts on a wide range of products offered by retail outlets.
Deals ranging from ‘buy one and get one free’ to 50% off (and above) across major brands attracted many, particularly those who are planning to take a break in December and want to take some gifts for their families, relatives and friends back home.
An Asian expatriate told Gulf Times that he bought two G-Shock watches for the price of one item (QR388) at a Domasco outlet in Villaggio Mall while his compatriot said he got a jacket at a sports shop for half the price.

“I think I saved a lot of money from this mega-sale (in Doha), it is the time of the year when you get the best value for your money,” he said.
Many shops and boutiques are giving away gift vouchers for a minimum amount spent while others offer flat (mostly 30% or 40%) discounts on all items.
Doha Festival City, considered one of the largest entertainment and retail developments in the Gulf, witnessed an influx of shoppers since it opened in the morning Friday.
The mall calls it ‘Friday Super Sale 2019’ with more than 100 of its shops giving a wide range of offers, which started on November 27: from 20% off and up, QR100 voucher on every QR350spent (on selected items), buy 2 get 2 free on everything, and other similar deals. People were seen queueing up hours ahead in the vicinity of outlets such as FNAC in Doha Festival City.
Mall of Qatar (MoQ) prefers to call it ‘White Friday Sale’, a one-day sale offering customers with an array of special discounts and deals. Shoppers also get a free QR50 gift card for every QR500 gift card bought.
“Hot” or in-demand items also include electronic devices and gadgets such as mobile phones, tablets, and laptops; shoes and other accessories; apparel for the winters season (sports and outdoor clothes); watches; luggage and other travel accessories; and jewelleries; among others.
Apart from restaurants, cafés, and hypermarkets, services such as haircutting (or salon) and play areas for children, as well as car wash at mall car parks also had their fair share of windfall.
Seen as a big hit and crowd-puller, the weekend mega-sale enticed many of shops and retail outlets at different malls to extend their promotions up to January 2020.
Meanwhile, other malls like Mirqab, Lagoona, Gulf Mall, and Ansar Gallery, among others, also received huge crowds.
“We still have a lot of regular customers who we know will be visiting us in the next few weeks before they leave the country soon on vacation and they normally buy in bulk,” an employee of a popular apparel brand in one of the malls told Gulf Times.
It is learnt that while commuters found it difficult to get parking slots at various malls Friday, the opening of Doha Metro’s Gold Line provided residents and visitors faster, easier, and hassle-free access to City Center Doha (with the DECC station) and Villaggio (with the Aziziyah station).
A metro passenger who used to drive to the malls said he finds the metro more convenient now.
“I really enjoy riding the metro with my family. No traffic, no hassles, and no need to look for a parking slot, which usually takes time. I just take a ticket for QR4 (to and fro), walk a little or take a cab if necessary to reach your destination stress-free, and then shop,” he said.
