Car electrification is a must, a logical development, and fits well with the Rolls-Royce brand, the company’s CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos has said.
“Electric engines basically are very powerful, they deliver a very silent torque, also great for Rolls-Royce motor cars,” he told Gulf Times during his recent visit to Doha.
The CEO, who earlier announced the company’s plan to go electric in the next decade, was highlighting the positive impact of the automotive industry’s development, particularly the shift from combustion engine to electric, on luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce.
He said that electrification serves as an important step in lowering carbon emissions, while noting that the company produces a small number of vehicles annually.
“We are selling 4,000 cars worldwide a year and our cars are driven with lots of mileages every year. So that impact worldwide is minute,” Muller-Otvos added.
“I am not saying that should led us to ignore the development, that is not my point, but you also, I think, need to say it in a certain context and that context is we are a very small little drop in that overall thing,” he said.
The CEO pointed out that Rolls-Royce is not keen to introduce hybrids but set to go pure electric, and will take place step by step.
“Also maybe quite a good point for sustainability. You might be interested to learn that 75% of all cars ever built in the 115 years history of Rolls-Royce motor cars are still on the road,” he said.
“So that gives you an indication that these are really extremely valuable pieces crafted out of the best materials money can buy, and this in a way that it is also an unmatched quality, and that gives our car sustainability in a way they live on,” Muller-Otvos explained. “We even find particularly here in the region many clients who were handling down Rolls-Royce to the next generation.”
