The 205th Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) began in Belgrade Monday. The meetings will be held until October 17.
HE the Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud participated in the opening session which discussed a number of issues, including proposals for the election of the president of the 141st Assembly, approval of the summary minutes of the 204th session of the governing council and the financial situation of the IPU.
It also discussed the draft unified budget for 2020 and the report of the president on her activities since the 204th session of the governing council and the activities of the executive committee, in addition to the local report of the secretary-general on the activities of the IPU since the 204th session of the governing council and the discussion of a number of other topics.
Several members of the Shura Council attended the event.
Separataely, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met HE al-Mahmoud, on the occasion of his participation in the 141st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the accompanying meetings.
During the meeting, HE the Speaker of the Shura Council conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to the President of Serbia and his wishes to him and to the Serbian people continued progress and development.
For his part, the Serbian president entrusted the Speaker of the Shura Council to conveyed his greetings to the Amir, wishing him and the Qatari people further progress and prosperity.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations between Qatar and Serbia and ways to develop them.
HE al-Mahmoud also met the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong, on the sidelines of the 141st General Assembly of the (IPU) .
During the meeting, they reviewed relations between the Shura Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and ways of enhancing and developing them.
He also met Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly Speaker Dr Ali Larijani.
They reviewed the existing parliamentary relations between Qatar and Iran and ways of boosting them. They also discussed the topics on the agenda of the General Assembly.
The meetings were attended by a number of members of the Shura Council and Qatar's ambassador to Serbia Sheikh Mubarak bin Fahd al-Thani.
