A high-level delegation from Ecuador will be visiting Doha soon to discuss several projects and proposals with Qatar, aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, Ecuadorian ambassador Ivonne A-Baki has announced.
The implementation of the previously launched projects are also set to be reviewed during the visit of Ecuadorian Vice President Otto Ramon Sennonholzner Sper, along with four ministers (Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources; Tourism; Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries; and Transport and Public Works).
“In the coming few weeks, we are in a process to sign two important memorandums of understanding (MoU), one is on the co-operation on the field of culture between the Government of Ecuador and the Ministry of Culture and Sports,” the envoy told reporters at a press conference yesterday.
Another MoU is also set to be signed between Ecuador’s Ministry of Transportation and Public Works and Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar), according to A-Baki. She said these agreements will boost the mutual relations in the fields of culture and transport and create new opportunities for further co-operation between Qatar and Ecuador.
A-Baki noted that both countries reciprocated valuable official visits in the past two years, resulting in close co-operation and creating opportunities to further boost their strong ties. “In October 2018, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, started his tour to South America in Ecuador, which was a positive and fruitful visit for both countries where several agreements have been signed in different fields,” she said.
“Ecuador is a country of opportunities and is a promising destination for investment. Its door will always be open to friendly countries.”
“I believe that today is the right moment to renew the trust and strengthen all means of co-operation between the two countries.” “In addition, we are the only Embassy of Ecuador in the Gulf region, and that confirms the recognition of the Ecuadorian Government for the distinctive diplomatic role of Qatar internationally and regionally,” A-Baki stressed.
Meanwhile, the envoy said, Ecuador is going through a challenge due to the recent demonstrations on the wake of the last governmental reforms. These include eliminating fuel subsidy and a pack of economic measures, which aims to decrease the budget deficit and safeguard the dollarisation of the economy and its stability. A-Baki expressed confidence that Ecuador will overcome such challenge with positive outcomes for all sides. “The President has offered an open dialogue with the protesters which is a promising start to overcome the situation.”
“As I said before and always say, the trust between Ecuador and Qatar has been built over years,” she said.
“And as expected from our friendly state Qatar, we have found every support from the government of Qatar, as I recently met with some officials in the Foreign Ministry who expressed their readiness to provide any help that we may need to pass this turn.”
“We highly appreciate the recent position of Qatar, as the Foreign Ministry has officially announced through its Spokesperson, HE Lolwah Alkhater, its support for peace, stability and economic prosperity of the people of Ecuador and called for the dialogue as a mean to ease up tensions,” the envoy said.
She thanked the Qatar government for continuously supporting Ecuador and “its keenness to show solidarity in the critical situations.”
“We look forward to the support of friendly nations like Qatar which is a constant supporter to the unity and stability of the Republic of Ecuador. At the end, I wish the people of Qatar all success and the government stability and prosperity in all areas,” A-Baki said.
