The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), launched an eco-friendly initiative yesterday in a bid to preserve the country’s electricity and water resources.
Dubbed ‘Ask Tarsheed’, this new campaign forms part of the Second National Strategy 2018-2022, which aims to diversify Qatar’s energy sources and reduce carbon emissions.
Speaking to Gulf Times, Tarsheed’s Awareness and Community Development Department head Fatima al-Misnad said through ‘Ask Tarsheed’, they will be conducting a series of lectures on how to reduce electricity usage. The participants, she added, include college and high school students from various schools and universities across Qatar, as well as employees from different government offices.
According to al-Misnad, simple “eco-friendly habits by ordinary people like us” can help make a huge difference in protecting the environment.
‘Ask Tarsheed’ also aims to raise public awareness on the efficient use of electricity and water, contributing to lesser consumption of such precious resources. This includes encouraging the community to use high-quality devices and techniques. The event yesterday witnessed the participation of Public Works Authority (Ashghal) employees, as well as students from a number of schools in Doha, at the Kahramaa Awareness Park.  Tarsheed is encouraging residents to buy energy-saving (high-quality) devices available in the Qatari market and adopt eco-friendly techniques to help conserve water and electricity. It is also ready to answer enquiries through its WhatsApp phone number 77728600 and e-mail asktarsheedkm.qa
As part of the initiative, Tarsheed also launched the #YouKnowWhoKnows hashtag, using a number of social media channels to expand its reach. ‘Ask Tarsheed’, in co-operation with its partners, will also tap other platforms in its campaign, such as cinemas and shopping malls - where people from different walks of life gather, to effectively deliver its message.
The initiative targets all sectors, especially the residential sector, QNA added.
