Cuba could be a potential tourism destination for Qataris as well as residents, as the Caribbean island nation aims to strengthen the already robust bilateral ties with Qatar, stated the Cuban ambassador.
“Cuba, as one of the most dynamic tourist destinations in the Caribbean region, has several attractions for the Qatari tourists, in particular its nature, beautiful beaches and all kinds of marine activities," Eumelio Caballero Rodriguez told Gulf Times recently.
Cuba also has a very rich historical and cultural heritage and the country provides an atmosphere of total political stability and security,” he pointed out.
“We are commemorating this year the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Qatar," the envoy said.
"We have very strong relations in healthcare and there is potential for co-operation in several areas such as tourism, sports, education and culture among others."
The ambassador said tourist visas to Cuba can be obtained easily at the Cuban embassy in Doha or through the airlines that fly to Cuban destinations from other countries and travel agencies.
“An important objective that should receive our mutual attention in the immediate future, is the opening of direct flights by Qatar Airways between Doha and Havana, which would greatly facilitate the links between both countries, particularly the tourist flow, not only of Qatari citizens and expatriates, but of tourists from all over the region and from other nearby countries that could make Doha as a transit centre to Cuba,” he suggested.
The envoy maintained that there are very good prospects for the development of mutually advantageous economic, commercial and financial relations between both countries.
“There are unlimited opportunities for Qatari investment throughout Cuba in sectors such as the tourism industry, particularly in the construction of hotels and marinas; biotechnology and pharmaceutical products, agriculture, real estate, finance, transportation, oil exploration and production, renewable energy, mining, among others,” he pointed out.
Highlighting that the Cuban Hospital in Dukhan is a great example of collaboration between Qatar and Cuba, the ambassador noted that the health sector, highly prioritised in the social development plans of the Qatari government, constitutes one of the areas in which the collaboration between Cuba and Qatar would continue to grow significantly.
“In our opinion, at the moment there are very good prospects for the development of mutually advantageous economic, commercial and financial relations. In addition to tourism, in the sectors of sports, education and culture, there are many opportunities for both the countries,” he added.
