*Three-day construction mega event drew more than 14,500 visitors

The 16th edition of Project Qatar has concluded at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) with a series of exhibitions, presentations and discussions highlighting future innovations and smart technology.

The three-day event, held under the Patronage of Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, drew 14,520 attendees from local and international construction industries.

From a presentation titled ‘Smartest and Most Sustainable City in the World’ by Msheireb Properties marketing director Clark Williams to a panel discussion on ‘Smart Infrastructure – Combining Physical and Digital Infrastructure’, the third day also saw five other talks focusing on smart infrastructure, technology and innovation.

Project Qatar 2019, themed “The Future of Construction in Qatar”, gathered participants from across the construction sector - project managers, architects, designers, property developers, and equipment and material suppliers, among others.

According to the organisers, the latest edition of Project Qatar was the most comprehensive to date, which featured more than 500 exhibitors from 33 countries. It included 342 international exhibitors in four exhibition halls of DECC.

“Qatar continues to flourish ahead of hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022, and towards delivering the Qatar National Vision 2030. It is an exciting time to be established in the Qatari market,” IFP Qatar acting general manager Haidar Mshaimesh said in a press statement.

“We also witnessed how the drive towards sustainability and hosting a major sports event is pushing innovation across the wider construction industry in Qatar. We are confident that our exhibitors, speakers, and visitors benefited this year and will return to Project Qatar in 2020,” he added.

Qatar’s premier exhibition specialising in construction and all related industries, Project Qatar was organised by IFP Qatar in association with the Qatar National Tourism Council.

Meanwhile, the Project Qatar conference, which was certified by Continuing Professional, issued certificates to attendees on each of the three days, providing “a thought leadership platform to the local, regional, and international construction community.”

The conference also tackled opportunities for foreign and local companies in the local market, technology and innovation in energy, and Qatar’s smart cities with lively discussions, interactions, and dialogue with high-profile speakers.

The hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022 also created a positive impact on design, building, and construction, benefiting the market from new technologies and innovative approaches.

The event also put up for the first time the ‘Smart District’ as among the dedicated product zones, which serves Qatar’s Smart Nation Programme. It showcased innovations and smart applications in building, energy, and transportation.

Some of the zones included the long-running Heavy Max and Qatar Stone Tech.

“Over 16 successful years,” organisers noted that the exhibition continued attracting global players in the construction market and provided unparalleled opportunities to secure deals with decision makers in the Qatar market.

“Project Qatar 2019 exceeded our expectations. We welcomed prospective clients to our booth to present our specialised, exceptionally high-quality products, and we are confident our participation will lead to further business opportunities. It was also a good opportunity to gain market insights to inform our planning for H2, 2019,” said Khaled Ghanem, general manager of Milano Kitchens & Closets Qatar (silver sponsor), in a statement.
