*The “Made in Germany” pavilion showcases state-of-the-art technology and high quality solutions for the construction business
About 20 German companies are participating in Project Qatar 2019, seeking more business opportunities within the framework of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and beyond, German ambassador Hans-Udo Muzel has said.
The exhibition, which opened Monday at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, hosts 15 international pavilions specialising in construction and related industries.
“Most of the German companies are in the market, they have a very established reputation, and looking forward to additional business certainly within the framework of infrastructure projects for the World Cup 2022 and so on,” the envoy told Gulf Times on the sidelines of the event.
Many of these are small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), who mostly have been taking part in Project Qatar every year since its inception in 2004, according to a German embassy statement.
A wide range of German expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and high quality solutions for the construction business are highlighted at the “Made in Germany” pavilion at the exhibition.
This covers building materials, electricity, lighting and air-conditioning, environmental and water technology, waste water treatment, stone technology and equipment, stone and stone products and architectural shading structures.
German SMEs have a reputation of high efficiency and outstanding quality in the international market, thus, Germany maintains its strong position worldwide, according to the embassy.
“German companies have been involved in various infrastructure projects on Qatar’s path to the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and the implementation of the country’s National Vision 2030 with German know-how having been actively sought after in Qatar for many years,” the embassy noted, adding that German expertise has been showcased through the roofing of Khalifa stadium and the unique convertible roof of Msheireb Smart City.
Qatar Rail also used German-made tunnel boring machines for the drilling work on the Doha Metro project, which was completed on schedule.
In addition, a German architectural company restored the former palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim al-Thani at the newly opened National Museum of Qatar.
The embassy said several German companies established a name for themselves in Qatar and its construction and building industry since many years.
The embassy noted that the pavilion is supported by the German government in co-operation with the German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar and remains one of the key exhibitions for German companies in the country.
