The first tea packaging plant of Lipton and Red Label brands in Qatar opened Sunday at the New Industrial Area, further boosting the country’s industrial sector and its efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.
Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company’s (QIMC) plant in Doha forms part of the efforts of the ministerial group, headed by HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, to stimulate and support the country’s economy, as well as its different development projects.
The 2,000sqm plant is equipped with advanced technology and logistic services, producing tea packs of various sizes.

“The opening of the plant is one of the fruits of the State of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to achieve partnership with the private sector and support them by all means,” Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al-Kuwari said in a press statement.
“This is also to encourage them to contribute in supporting the national economy and achieve value addition, in addition to contributing to the achievement of self-sufficiency in many sectors, including the food products sector in line with National Vision 2030,” the Minister added.
He encouraged the private sector to take advantage of the various investment opportunities provided by Qatar in different sectors. 
HE al-Kuwari lauded the role played by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, through its various departments, in easing the procedures in doing business and investments in the country.
In a statement, QIMC’s Chairman of the Board of Directors HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Mohammed bin Jabor al-Thani thanked HE Sheikh Abdullah, also Chairman of the Cabinet, for his support.
According to QIMC, Lipton and Red Label brand, which is part of Unilever Worldwide, represents more than two-thirds of sales in the domestic market. 
The involvement of a global company specialising in this field will further enrich the standards of manufacturing plants in Qatar, according to QIMC.
It is learnt that Lipton and Red Label brand built an “a kind of ecosystem over the years, which boosts other businesses as well”. The plant is expected to increase tea production from 1,200 to 2,000 tonnes in its first year of operation.
Raw materials used by the plant come from four countries: Kenya, Sri Lanka, India, and Turkey.
