About 90 local farms and more than 50 international companies will take part in the 7th Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (Agriteq), from March 19 to 22 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The event, dubbed as ‘Agriteq and Enviroteq 2019’ in this edition, will highlight innovation in agricultural techniques, in addition to showcasing an array of new equipment and technologies in this sector.
“Agriteq will focus on sustainable farming this year. We will give presentations with our association for environment-friendly and recycling technology to covert organic wastes to compost,” prominent Qatari agriculturist and Agrico managing director Nasser Ahmed al-Khalaf told Gulf Times.
He noted that their latest research and development in agriculture aims to support His Highness the Amir’s vision of achieving food security for the country.
Agrico, a private Qatari agricultural development company established in 2011 with the aim of helping the country achieve self-sufficiency, is a silver sponsor of Agriteq 2019, along with Al Rayyan Agricultural, Woqod, and AG Middle East.
“New large farms will be taking part this year and I am expecting more farms in large scale in the next few years,” al-Khalaf said. “This will be the year of legacy and achievement in Qatar’s agriculture sector and this is just the start.”
Qatar aims to reduce its reliance on imported products by increasing local production in line with its National Vision 2030.
Agriteq is known as the premiere platform for local and international agriculture stakeholders to exchange expertise, discover trends and developments, and seize business opportunities in this sector.
“The event furnishes an ideal opportunity for industry specialists to explore a wide range of agricultural technologies, equipment and related products, meet key decision-makers, gain valuable insights, and discover the best practices,” organisers said.
The 2019 edition will also feature a specialised business matchmaking platform aimed at helping exhibitors and visitors meet key decision-makers from the public and private sectors, through pre-arranged meetings, to discuss potential opportunities and
partnerships.
Previous editions of this event gathered experts, specialists, technology providers and stakeholders from Qatar and various parts of the world, underscoring the keenness of the country and its wise leadership to promote the agriculture sector.
The 2018 edition of Agriteq also witnessed an auction of cattle, poultry and other animals, apart from a mini zoo, which served as an ‘edu-tainment’ for young children and students.
