The development of phase two of the AFG College with the University of Aberdeen has been officially launched by Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh al-Thani, chairperson and founder of the Al Faleh Group for Education and Academic Services and Prof George Boyne, principal and vice chancellor, University of Aberdeen.

This marks the first step in the development of a full-fledged university campus in Al Daayen area which will offer Aberdeen degrees across a range of academic disciplines. The launch ceremony was also attended by Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani and Sheikh Nasser bin Nawaf al-Thani, as well as officials from the University of Aberdeen and staff members of AFG College.

“The building covers 60,000sqm. It will have four colleges of medical, engineering business and the humanities. We have already started the process for the building and we hope that we will start the construction by next month. We hope to complete the building within two years,” Sheikha Aisha told Gulf Times.

The initiation of phase two and the new land was afforded to AFG by the Qatari government. With over 400 registered students studying for various programmes in the present campus, phase one presents a strong platform for continued development of a new and larger university campus as part of the strategic development of the unique academic alliance.

“Our partnership with the University of Aberdeen continues to go from strength to strength. The development of the new university campus will compliment His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al- Thani’s strategic vision to strengthen quality higher education in the country which in-turn will support a stronger knowledge-based economy for the future of Qatar and growth of its people,” explained Sheikha Aisha.

“We are extremely proud to be associated with such a prestigious university, ranked among the world’s top 160 universities and with over 500 hundred years of history and academic excellence and I am committed to help build on this reputation by providing a first class student experience here in Qatar,” she added.

Prof Boyne commented, “I am delighted to attend the official launch of our planned new campus in Qatar, which is another milestone in our successful partnership with the Al Faleh Group. Throughout its long history, the university has taken pride in being open to the world, and our campus in Qatar is testament to our international outlook. This has seen the university export its expertise in teaching and research to new areas and is assisting Qatar in its plans to deliver the highest quality education to its citizens.”

“This truly is a milestone moment for our partnership with AFG, and I look forward to continuing our excellent work together as we create a world-class campus that establishes the university as a leader in transnational education,” he added.
