Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) secretary-general Hassan al-Thawadi and Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss potential collaborations for 2022 FIFA World Cup-related projects.
“From our side, we presented the latest developments in terms of the World Cup, the areas of co-operation, and also I provided an update on a number of initiatives that we launched in Pakistan, in particular, ‘Generation Amazing’ and the reach of ‘Generation Amazing’ where we’ve reached over 25,000 people,” al-Thawadi told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting held Tuesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha.
The meeting also included areas where Qatar and Pakistan could work together, such as the skilled workforce from Pakistan, as well as legacy projects and sectors like the manufacturing.
Responding to a query on security, al-Thawadi said: “Pakistan is very well known in terms of having very professional security forces, so I believe that is in the agenda, but it is something that the security committee will be discussing in more detail.”
A statement from the Pakistan embassy in Doha said Khan “thanked Qatar for its decision to import 100,000 Pakistani workers. He also requested His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for a greater share for Pakistani manpower in 2022 FIFA-related large scale infrastructure development projects.”
“During the business meetings, Prime Minister Imran Khan invited Qatari business leaders to invest in all sectors of Pakistan’s economy, including energy, petroleum and petrochemicals, agricultural research, food processing, culture, tourism, education, and infrastructure development.
“The prime minister invited Qatari public and private sectors to become partners in his government’s drive for construction of 5mn low-cost housing units over the next five years. Qatari business leaders expressed great interest in investing in Pakistan…the prime minister also addressed over 15,000 Pakistanis at the Wakrah Stadium. The Pakistani community responded with enthusiasm and great interest,” the statement also said.
