LuLu Group International is attending the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting at Davos-Klosters in Switzerland from January 22 to 25.
LuLu has partnered with the World Economic Forum in a WEF global initiative on shaping the future of food security and agriculture.
The mission of this initiative is to "build inclusive, sustainable, efficient and nutritious food systems through leadership-driven, market-based action and collaboration, informed by insights and innovation," in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The ‘System Initiative’ as it is called engages more than 600 organisations to strengthen food system and translate global-level commitment in to action on the ground. It is built around the New Vision for Agriculture (NVA), which advances food security, environmental sustainability and economic opportunity through a market-based and multi-stakeholder approach.
The System Initiative aims to strengthen global food systems by developing new insights to provoke action, facilitating collaboration to achieve healthy diets and sustainable landscapes, providing a platform for action-oriented best practices exchange and achieve the NVA by strengthening country-led multi-stakeholder collaboration in 21 partnerships in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The WEF's’s new 'Vision for Agriculture Initiative' has mobilised $10.5bn in investment commitments, of which more than $2.5bn has been implemented, catalysing over 90 value-chain partnerships and benefiting over 10.5mn farmers to date.
A high-level Qatari delegation, comprising ministers and HE Hassan al-Thawadi, Secretary-General, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, is attending the WEF in Davos.
This year’s forum will focus on the theme, 'Globalisation 4.0: Shaping a Global Architecture in the Age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution'.
Mohamed Althaf, director, LuLu Hypermarkets and member of the Qatari Businessmen Association will be attending the Davos meeting.
“For many years there has been an interest about Qatar at the World Economic Forum. There has been an increased interest from Qatar about WEF as well. Qatar being the richest country in the world, a strategic investor in global economy and active in socio-economic development and economic diplomacy, has been steadily increasing its participation at the WEF,” Althaf told Gulf Times on Sunday.
Althaf will also participate in several important sessions organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and a session on trade policy with India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Suresh Prabhu.
The WEF in Davos-Klosters convenes leaders from 100 countries across business, government, international organisations, academia and civil society in over 400 working sessions to discuss the global, regional and industry agendas at the beginning of each year.
The WEF's mission is to improve the state of the world by solving critical global challenges, which has driven the design and development of the annual meeting objectives.
The forum concentrates its activities around 14 System Initiatives, which provide a framework for shaping global change, and the participants will contribute to multiple agendas on global, geopolitical, economic, regional, industrial, business and future etc. through various sessions.
