Residents and visitors flocked in large numbers to the conclusion of the Souq Waqif Spring Festival Friday.
The 15-day festival showcased an array of fun-filled activities for kids of all ages and for the young at heart.
A large portion of the festival activities, hosted by the Organising Committee of the Private Engineering Office, included cultural performances, mainly dances and songs from different countries.

Large crowds swelled along Souq Waqif’s main alley during the performances, while Al Ahmed Square was packed because of a the wide variety of carnival skills games and kiddie rides, as well as pony rides and other on-stage and off-stage attractions.
Also inside Al Ahmed Square was a popular circus show, which attracted many visitors, mostly children and their parents who marvelled at the breathtaking performances of international acrobats.
The event also featured a magic show, juggling act, and amazing animal performances.
Other activities at the festival included a painting exhibition from the works of more than a dozen artists based at the Souq Waqif Art Centre.
Many of the artworks showcased Qatari culture and tradition.
One painting that stood out – a crowd favourite for selfies – was a large portrait of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Aside from the festival’s activities, many people, especially tourists, are drawn to the Souq for its antiquated ambiance and design.
Besides the popular pet shops, spices and jewellery, traditional garment retailers found along the Souq’s rustic alleys are huge crowd drawers.
The Souq also offers an ample selection of restaurants that serve Mediterranean and international cuisine.
Food carts in almost every nook and cranny of the Souq offer hot and cold beverages and many quick snacks like Turkish ice cream, waffles, and burgers, among many others.
Souq Waqif is only one of the many destinations across Qatar that has been drawing many residents and visitors.
Similar activities were also celebrated Friday at Souq Al Wakrah, while Katara – the Cultural Village is hosting an array of events, including Kaffeinated 3 and the Mahaseel Festival, among others.
Malls are also popular weekend destinations, especially those that are taking part in the Qatar National Tourism Council’s third edition of ‘Shop Qatar 2019’.
