Kenyan star Christopher Oketch has retained his crown as ‘Qatar’s Strongest Man (QSM),’ besting Egyptian Mohamed Dweidar (2nd), his compatriot Joseph Iroo Ekadeli (3rd), and six other contenders, in an action-packed event over the weekend at the Aspire Park.
“I thank all those who supported me from my family, fans and organisers at Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), and I would like to mention that you can be the hero if you follow a healthy lifestyle and pursue your goals,” Oketch said.
Inspired by the results of his hard work and determination, he announced that he will be participating in next year’s competition.
The latest edition of QSM attracted more than 2,500 sports fans cheering for the eight contenders who went through five gruelling challenges – each one demanding extraordinary strength and endurance.

“You can be the hero if you follow a healthy lifestyle and pursue your goals,” Oketch stressed, citing he was fit and ready for the crowd-puller event.
Other participants include Kenyan Samuel Wainina (35); Egyptians Hussam Uldin Rashad (40), Mohamed Mahmoud (32), and Ahmad Mahmoud Dawy; and American Jaron Greene (31).
All eight finalists went through intense challenges, including the Conan’s Wheel, where contestants lifted a 180kg bar on a rotating platform, followed by sand bag lifting that varied from 90kg and 110kg; and a 120kg Giant Tyre Flipping.
The contenders also had to pass through the ‘Farmer’s Walk’ while lifting 90kg on each arm before taking the final challenge – pulling a six-tonne truck.
According to AZF, it strives to make QSM bigger and better annually with “an exceptional ambiance and higher standards.”
“QSM’s ever-increasing popularity inspires everyone in the Foundation to take the competition to the next level every year. It has become a forum for strength and endurance for sports enthusiasts in Qatar,” AZF’s Events and Venues director Abdullah Aman al-Khater said.
AZF also assigned a team of physiotherapists from Aspetar, the orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital in Qatar, and medics from the Qatar Red Crescent to ensure that competitors remain safe throughout the competition.
Besides entertainment, food stalls and community activities, the event also witnessed visitors and fans taking part in a number of strength competitions such as carrying sandbags and tyre lifting. Winners have been awarded with cash prizes from Sports Corner.
From inception and design to delivery and build, AZF stressed that QSM has been managed to the highest international standards by its multidisciplinary team of local experts at Aspire Logistics.
This year’s QSM stands as yet another example of AZF executing the best events for local community members and sports enthusiasts in Qatar.
