Harry Potter star Tom Felton, who played the role of Draco Malfoy, has expressed interest in doing a film in Qatar, citing the country’s “amazing hospitality, architecture and landscapes.”
“Given the chance, absolutely,” the British actor and singer told reporters at a press briefing on the sidelines of the sixth `Ajyal Film Festival’ Friday, taking place at Katara – the Cultural Village.
“I’ve only been here for 24 hours but I am already blown away by the hospitality. So maybe this will the first of the many trips to come,” he said, adding that he was excited to see more of Qatar.
Felton said he is willing to work with the Doha Film Institute for a possible project in the country, which he described as “very lovely and beautiful.”
He was among the celebrity guests at the annual festival, including Avenger and Ant-man and the Wasp star Evangeline Lilly. The event also witnessed local, regional and international filmmakers, directors and artistes, as well as dignitaries, attending the red carpet gala and other activities.
“I am very excited to be part of Ajyal’s promotion and try to install excitement really in the youngsters here and youngsters from around the world,” he stressed. “I feel it is very important to be able to give back in a way because they gave a lot of my inspiration when I was growing up and doing films.”
The renowned British actor, who is visiting Qatar for the first time, added that he wants to explore “this part of the world” and hoping to get a chance to inspire many youngsters who are passionate about film.
He lauded Ajyal and its organisers for its concept of having young jurors saying such programme is fantastic – an aim which motivates the youth to pursue their dreams.
“These are the next great filmmakers of the world aren’t they?” Felton said. “I was heavily inspired when I was six or seven years old, to get such a mix group of people from around the world at that age I think you can never underestimate the effect that may have.”
About upcoming projects, he noted that not much films in the pipeline right now but a TV show launched on Youtube premium called “Origin” – a 10-part series his team has been shooting for the last seven months.
About starring as “Draco Malfoy”, Felton said he feels grateful and proud of such role in the box office hit film series Harry Potter.
“I wont be sitting here if wasn’t for that, how can I not be grateful for it? Many actors do a lot of different things but they will always be remembered for certain roles,” he pointed out. “I’m sure all the kids that I am about to meet that is probably the thing they know the most.”
