Two years ago, Ghanim al-Sulaiti founded and established ‘Botany’, a fully-vegan skin care line that caters to health-conscious men and women who prefer pure, natural, and organic creations over other chemical-based products available in the market.
A tunnel engineer by profession, al-Sulaiti is also certified in plant-based nutrition and a certified health coach, and has been a vegan for the past five years. He admits to an obsession with oils and essential oils but the lack of vegan-related products in the local market led him to study and research, and eventually to produce his own line of vegan products.
Al-Sulaiti said Botany’s first collection line was vegan candles made from non-GMO soya wax and are all packaged in eco-friendly glass bottles. The next line of products was facial mists, followed by the recently-launched facial oils.
While based in Qatar, al-Sulaiti runs a laboratory in Australia with a team of chemists. He said Botany is planning to launch a new line that includes vegan deodorants, body scrubs, shampoos, face serums, and toothpaste.
Before launching any product into the market, al-Sulaiti said Botany’s team makes sure that each product is tested and safe.

Al-Sualiti said he is overwhelmed from the local market’s support but at the same time, he also wants Botany “to change the perception that locally-made products are low key.”
“I think nobody has done a vegan skin care line in Doha, yet…but I wanted to have a brand that could sit next to luxury labels, such as Chanel, Hermes, and Dior in department stores,” al-Sulaiti told Gulf Times on Friday on the sidelines of the Torba Farmers Market, which runs every Friday and Saturday at Qatar Foundation’s Ceremonial Court.
Currently, Botany is available at Blue Salon, the W Doha spa, and the Hamad International Airport. By next month, al-Sulaiti said Botany will be selling at the Galeries Lafayette.
Before launching Botany, al-Sulaiti said he first launched Evergreen Organics, the first vegan café in Qatar located at Qanat Quartier inside The Pearl – Qatar.
“I started it to make people aware that there is an alternative for healthy vegan food, and that you can still survive even without eating meat, chicken, and fish. We wanted to educate people,” he stressed.
Al-Sulaiti also runs Evergreen Kitchen, a subsidiary of Evergreen Organics that has a centralised kitchen in Doha, which produces vegan cheeses, granolas, flat breads and crackers available at supermarkets across Qatar, such as LuLu, Carefour, Megamart, and Monoprix.
