Private sector leader Qatar Chamber held a meeting yesterday with members of a trade and export delegation from Morocco to review co-operation ties and to discuss ways of enhancing trade relations of both countries.
Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari underscored during the meeting the significance of the series of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed during the Qatari-Moroccan Joint Supreme Committee meeting held in the Moroccan capital of Rabat in March.
Al-Kuwari said agreements signed in March included deals in the fields of agriculture and industry, as well as an MoU for the establishment of a Joint Trade Ministerial Committee.
“These agreements play an important role in opening new areas of co-operation between Qatari and Moroccan businessmen, and in the development of both countries’ trade volume, which stood at QR330mn in 2017,” al-Kuwari said.
Al-Kuwari said there are currently 117 Qatari-Moroccan companies operating in the Qatari market and six companies with 100% Moroccan capital in the sectors of fashion, construction, building, hospitality, services, and decorations. The total capital of these companies amounts to QR20mn, he added.
Qatar Chamber board member Ali al-Misnad acknowledged the visit of the Moroccan delegation, which was composed of representatives of the Moroccan Agency for Developing Investment and Exports (Amdie) and the Moroccan Association of Exporters (Asmex), led by its director Abdelaziz Bellahchen.
He also thanked the 20 Moroccan companies that participated in the International Products Exhibition and Conference (Ipec 2018), which concluded yesterday (October 10). He said their participation reflects Morocco’s support for Qatar during the unjust siege on the country.
In a speech, al-Kuwari said Morocco is “an attractive and safe destination” for investments, and stressed that the country “is replete with a multitude of promising investment opportunities” that attract Qatari investors.
He also assured the delegation that the Qatari private sector “enjoys strong co-operation ties” with its Moroccan counterpart.
“Qatar and Morocco relations have drastically developed over the past years, in light of the sound vision of both countries’ leaderships who are interested to take these relations to higher levels,” al-Kuwari stressed.
During the meeting, a representative from Amdie delivered a presentation that showcased Morocco’s economic and investment profile and the available investment opportunities being offered by the country.
