Katara - the Cultural Village's fireworks attracted a large number of spectators.

The influx of holiday-goers and shoppers to mall shows is expected to continue until Saturday (fifth and last day) at Festival City and other malls participating in the Qatar Summer Festival (QSF) 2018, organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), it is learnt.
The ‘Superheroes: Live Avengers Doubles,’ one of QTA’s rotating shows which feature some of Marvel’s popular characters like Spiderman, Ironman, Black Panther, and Captain America, has fascinated a large number of mall-goers.
“I would say the shows this Eid al-Adha are really amazing and impressed me a lot. My children were very happy to see and take pictures with their favourite Avengers,” said Jeremy A, a Filipino expatriate and an avid Marvel superheroes fan.
According to a number of employees at different boutiques and shops, many families have been going to the malls not only to watch the shows and performances but also to take advantage of the ongoing promotions and sales, which give them the chance to win major prizes.
“QSF helped to further boost our sales from the start of the festival in June and we hope this to continue in the coming weeks,” an employee of an apparel shop told Gulf Times.
Participating malls, which include Doha Festival City, Lagoona Mall, Al Mirqab Mall, Hyatt Plaza, B Square Mall, Gulf Mall, Landmark Mall, Al Khor Mall and Mall of Qatar, offer up to 50% discounts and special promotions. Shoppers get a raffle coupon for every QR200 spent at any of the outlets in any of QSF’s participating malls and a chance to win a Lamborghini Hurricane (2018 model) super car.
With the popularity of indoor activities during the summer, residents also thronged QTA’s Summer Entertainment City at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre, which features a wide range of interactive games and activities, and one-of-its-kind amusement rides.
“Children have been enjoying the amusement rides and the number is overwhelming particularly the start of the Eid break and the weekend as well,” said a staff assigned at the virtual reality section – one of the busiest at the 29,000 sq m entertainment facility.
The world’s largest bouncy castle, an ice skating rink and the amusement rides are also among the family-favourites at SEC, apart from the food court, which offers an array of cuisines and delicacies, the staff added.
Katara – the Cultural Village’s four-day Eid celebration concluded on Friday with a variety of cultural and entertainment shows, including a fireworks display, attracting more than 150,000 visitors, according to Katara’s public relations and communications director Salem al-Marri.
“This confirms that Katara is the first destination for the public on such festive occasions due to its services and a variety of activities that respond to different tastes and needs,” he said in a press statement.
Katara presented a performance by a musical band from the Police Training Institute as part of the programme, enthralling the audience in a festive environment at the esplanade – “combining the harmony of their movements and musical instruments.”
The Eid celebrations at Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakrah have also become an important part of families’ itinerary in spending the holidays in the country. The two souqs’ fun-filled activities, games, and entertainment shows, among other family-friendly-offerings, continued bringing excitement and joy to visitors on Friday.
