The Summer Entertainment City (SEC) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre is again set to welcome a large number of visitors this weekend and throughout the Eid al-Adha holidays, it is learnt.
Speaking to Gulf Times, QSports founder and board member Adil Ahmed said they have lined up a series of cultural and entertainment performances, as well as children’s shows and activities at SEC from Friday.
“It’s always very busy during the Eid holidays (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) and we are estimating between 30,000 and 35,000 visitors in the last 10 days (August 21 to 31),” he noted.
The 29,000sqm SEC is a family-favourite and main venue of the Qatar Summer Festival 2018 organised by QSports and presented by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).
Ahmed, who is also the SEC project director, estimates that more than 100,000 people have visited the entertainment facility since it opened on the first day of Eid al-Fitr in June.
He said that various entertainment offerings at SEC continue to give families and children an exciting and memorable experience.
Part of the programme this weekend includes roaming shows and a cultural performance on stage sponsored by the Nigerian embassy in Doha, Ahmed noted.
“We will make the last 10 days as exciting as possible, in partnership with QTA, which is also trying to put in some shows,” he stressed.
The football fan zone at SEC, which screened live FIFA World Cup matches during the month-long tournament in Russia, has been transformed into a giant gaming area for visitors.
“We kept the football game alive but we changed the big screen into a FIFA gaming station where kids can play and that gives them a separate experience and so far have been well received,” Ahmed said.
Virtual reality (VR) games remained to be the busiest section at SEC and the “most preferred activity” of visitors, both young and adults.
“Many children play here frequently, they like various kinds of simulators such as the VR Park, Space Trip, Formula 1 and flight simulator,” a staff told Gulf Times.
She said they expect a large number of people this weekend and throughout the Eid break, before the opening of classes.
Apart from amusement parks, rides and other activities, visitors also have the chance to shop a wide range of food and non-food items at SEC’s ‘summer shopping souq.’
This retail section hosts more than 100 international exhibitors from Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, China, Indonesia, and South Korea, among other countries, including Qatar.
