Mall of Qatar's (MoQ) first-ever Spring/Summer Fashion Festival kicked off on Thursday, showcasing some of the collections of renowned fashion designer Alejandro Resta from Spain.
"Resta is talented and young and we want to create a very good international feel during this 10-day fashion festival," MoQ's public relations and events manager Patrick Hage-Chahine told reporters on the occasion.
The idea is to showcase the latest spring and summer collections of MoQ's retailers to mallgoers and "to spread the word that it's time to change outfit and be fashionable."
Three fashion shows will be held daily until March 31 at the mall's Oasis Stage, featuring men's, women's and children's collections from “some of the visitors’ favourite brands at MoQ and international designers” such as Qlabel of Qatar; Ali Al Khechen and Nizar Roumani, both of Lebanon; Daniel Oporto of Los Angeles, besides Resta.
The fashion shows will also feature collections from Vero Moda, Kocca, River Island, Stradivarius, Levis, Armani Exchange, Sacoor Brothers, Mayoral, Giordano, Babycare, Buggati, Salsa, TopShop, Nocturne, Roman, Choice, Scalpers, LC Waikiki, and Lefties.
According to Hage-Chahine, the festival will host a number of activities in different rotundas, including a children's mini catwalk, a make-up tutorial booth and womenswear, menswear and children’s clothing displays throughout the mall.
The official said that MoQ is keen to "support young and talented designers."
Resta, who took part in the international fashion show at Shop Qatar in Doha early this year, is also planning to create ‘Spanish abayas’ in Doha as part of his new collection.
The Spanish designer wants to introduce new colours such as white and blue for the Arabian dress. Resta also mulls opening a boutique in Doha in the future due to the increasing inquiries from guests who are interested in his ready couture.
MoQ has been hosting various events and activities to entertain mallgoers, including a one-of-its kind fashion festival, as it prepares for a new season.
