Sidra Medicine will annually handle about 275,000 outpatient cases and 9,000 deliveries when it becomes fully operational, a top official of the hospital disclosed.

Sidra Medicine is expected to open all its inpatient departments by May 2018 while the outpatient facility is already fully operational.

“Safety is our number one priority. Huge amount of planning has gone into the opening of the hospital. The hospital will handle about 275,000 outpatient cases, 100,000 emergency cases, 11,000 procedures annually when it becomes fully operational,” said Morag Gates, chief operating officer, Sidra Medicine.

“The hospital will have feature 140 clinics, 10 operating theatres, 400 beds in single rooms with a private bathroom, a birth centre and emergency department,” added the official.

According to Peter Morris, CEO, Sidra Medicine, the hospital also will offer IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation ) next year to help couples with fertility issues."We are currently building a facility for that purpose. The IVF facility will be offered during the course of 2018.”

According to Morris, Sidra Medicine has three key areas of focus : world class medical care, medical education and research. The official noted that this will ensure to provide exceptional patient care in the country as well as help build Qatar’s scientific expertise and resources.

When fully operational, Sidra Medicine will become Qatar’s leading paediatric hospital and the only specialist centre treating pregnant women with foetal complications. It will employ 2,000 nurses, 600 doctors and 800 healthcare professionals and administrative staff.

The clinical priority areas of Sidra Medicine are maternal foetal medicine, genetics and genomics, maternal diabetes and metabolic syndromes. The hospital will also be a research hub to help ground breaking treatments, technologies and techniques.
