Family-oriented activities and a wide variety of children’s games have attracted many visitors to Souq Al Wakrah on the first day of Eid al-Adha on Friday.

Around 30 skilled games for children, a virtual reality arcade, drawing and colouring station, Lego and building blocks booth, mini train, and four bouncy castles are housed inside a 1,800sqm air-conditioned tent, which will be open to the public until September 5 from 4pm to 10pm, a staff told Gulf Times.
Children will also enjoy fun activities like inflatable bowling, inflatable football, inflatable sumo wrestling, inflatable boxing, and sand pit, among other novelty games.
Families and children took turns taking selfies and group photos with life sized mascots ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ and some of Disney’s seven dwarfs, adding sparkle to the five-day festivities.
The sing and dance booth was a popular attraction among young children. Spectators enjoyed the live performances of kids belting out the latest tunes or grooving to hip dance trends.
“I was so proud to see my daughter perform, which she loves to do,” said a parent, who pointed out that similar activities help children overcome shyness, and serves as a good way to meet new friends.

Another parent observed that the activities prepared for the Souq Al Wakrah Eid festivities involve a lot of physical activity, which, according to her, “is good way to enjoy and have fun in a healthy way.”
“Rather than staying at home and connected to the Internet and mobile gadgets, these attractions at Souq Al Wakrah will help kids stay active and fit. Even if outdoor temperatures are high, people can still enjoy because the venue is air-conditioned,” she said.
Aside from the tent, Souq Al Wakrah’s Corniche also attracted families and other visitors to the area. Since its opening last July, the Souq Al Wakrah beach also help increase visitor footfall, a restaurant staff said.
The staff said restaurants and other stores at the Souq witnessed brisk business this summer season after the management of Souq Al Wakrah, which is overseen by the Private Engineering Office, opened the beach to the public.
Qatar News Agency had reported earlier, quoting Souq Al Wakrah manager Khalid Saif al-Suwaidi as saying that following extensive preparations, the area now has “one of the most beautiful beaches in the southern region.”
“But aside from the beach’s appeal to the public, we are expecting visitor arrival to increase further at the onset of the winter season in the next couple of months,” the restaurant staff said.
