The Summer Entertainment City at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre has attracted more than 14,000 visitors over the weekend, the organisers have said.
The figure exceeded the expected 8,000-10,000 festival-goers during the weekend at the centrepiece of Qatar Summer Festival (QSF) 2017, according to QSports.
“A large number of families are enjoying the various entertainment offerings and interactive activities at the City and we expect more visitors in the coming days, QSports founder and CEO Adil Ahmed told Gulf Times.
The City, QSF’s centrepiece and a family favourite, features the world’s largest inflatable obstacle course, Timba cars, Bricklyn Lego, skill games, virtual reality and arcade games, a paintball shooting range and live entertainment shows.
Ahmed said this weekend will see a “fabulous display” of Bollywood dance and a renowned Pakistani rock bandPopularly known as D4Dance, the group is an international dance team that began in Bangalore and is making waves in Europe and in Qatar, while the Pakistani rock band Raakh will also perform, drawing inspiration from the likes of Slipknot, Korn and others.
“Further, a cricket competition to find Qatar’s fastest bowler is coming soon,” Ahmed added.
Many visitors lauded the offerings at the City, saying they were overwhelmed with the number of unique activities, as well as entertainment shows watch.
“Me and my son had the best (and most extreme and exhausting) time together inside the world’s largest inflatable obstacle course. I wish it could stay in Doha,” said a certain Ron Merencilla. “They had so much fun they went for three rounds (with me) and I was gasping for air trying to catch up.”
Maui Ambrosio-Castillo also shared the same experience, citing the numerous new attractions for both children and adults.
“It was a nice experience. There were also food stalls to choose from. The venue was big enough for all the kids who want to roam around, plus you will not feel hot inside,” she said, vowing they will return since her son enjoyed the events at the City.
Asked about providing special promotions to entice more visitors, Ahmed said they currently have the Gold Pass, which offers up to “85% savings of the cost of each included ride”. He noted that the Gold Pass enables users to take most of the rides at the City once in a day.
It costs QR150 plus a QR15 entry fee and only a few items are excluded such as paintball, skills games, retail outlets and the food court.
“We are about to introduce the Platinum Pass (same exceptions as the Gold Pass) for QR299.
For those who want a summer packed with extreme adventure, the City is going to offer a Season Pass for QR999, giving an unlimited dose of entertainment until September 5,” Ahmed said. The new passes will be offered starting this weekend. In addition, visitors can avail discounts to attractions such as the Aqua Park and Fitness First.
Among the new attractions coming up are Fitness First, a cricket pitch with net bowling and Qatar’s Fastest Bowler Competition, and a wide range of basketball and penalty kick competitions.
